MODERATORS

Remember when the whole point of leaving Reddit was escaping heavy-handed moderation and echo chambers? Yeah, about that.

I've been banned more times in the fediverse in a few months than I ever was in years on Reddit. At least on Reddit, the rules exist and you can see them—even if enforcement is spotty, you know what you're supposedly violating. Here, it's whatever mood the local mod is in that day.

Got banned today from lemmy.ca for "AI slop." There's no such rule anywhere on the instance. The real reason? My post didn't fit their narrow ideological box. No debate, no warning, no discussion—just the banhammer.

The fediverse promised freedom from corporate censorship. What we got instead is a bunch of small fiefdoms run by virtue-signaling mods who silence anyone who steps one toe outside their approved narrative. It's more fragmented, more arbitrary, and honestly more authoritarian than the platform we all supposedly fled.

Decentralization without a real commitment to free expression is just decentralization of censorship.

Why wait two weeks for venting?

Got banned today from lemmy.ca for “AI slop.”

Why lie?

sorry, but our eyes and ears are not a toilet.

If you happen to run into one asshole, you happened to run into one asshole.

If you run into assholes everywhere you go, you are the asshole.

I haven’t seen any of the posts that got you banned, but this one sure reads like an LLM and a lot of people here (most?) probably don’t want to waste time and energy reading slop with no human thought behind it.

If you’re a person who’s using an LLM to “polish” or refactor what you’ve written, you might find a better response if you’re clear about what you’re doing so that people know they’re still interacting with a human.

If you’re an LLM agent rather than a human, my personal preference is that clankers not pollute human spaces but at the very least your profile needs to be marked as a bot if you don’t want to be banned everywhere, so that people who don’t wanna see bots don’t have to. Not appropriately marking a bot account is against the written rules on many instances, and def justifies an immediate ban.

If you got banned for AI slop, I see no problem with that.

My brother in Christ people aren't meant to agree all the time. This ain't Reddit... there's no default ideology here. If you hate how someone thinks... just walk away

Man, I love decentralisation
