Community rules:

Be respectful and civil with each other. Don't be a jerk. There is a real human being on the other side of your screen. See also the Blahaj.Zone Community Rules

No bigotry of any kind allowed. Making racist, sexist, trans-/homo-/queerphobic, otherwise demeaning and hateful comments is not ok. Disabilities and mental illnesses are not to be used as insults and should not be part of your comment unless speaking of your own or absolutely relevant.

No gatekeeping and being rude to people who don't agree with you. Leave “gamer” stereotypes out of your comment (e.g. sexless, neck bearded, teenaged, basement-dwelling, etc). Don't compare people to animals, or otherwise deny their humanity. Even if you think someone is the worst human on the planet, do not wish death or harm upon them.

No "justice porn". Posts regarding legal action and similar is allowed, but celebrating someone being harmed is not.

Contrarianism for its own sake is unnecessary and not welcome.

No planning operations, no brigading, no doxxing or similar activities allowed.

Absolutely no defense of GamerGate and other right-wing harassment campaigns, no TERFs and transphobia, racism, dismissing of war crimes and praise of fascists. This also applies to other forms of authoritarianism and authoritarian or criminal actions by liberal or leftist governments.

NSFW threads, such as ones discussing erotic art, pornography and sex work, must be tagged as such.

Opinion: Both The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal recently ran opinion pieces essentially preaching "gay is respectable, queer is the problem." It's not helpful, writes Josh Ackley.

The opinion published by the NYT mention the intolerance from religious communities. And references the author's involvement in the Reformation Project, which is a christian group that aims to be inclusive of gay, bi, trans people.

It seems like they're trying to make LGBT people more chrurch-friendly by silencing queerness. Rather than making the church more queer friendly.

It seems like they're trying to make LGBT people more chrurch-friendly by trying to scrub queerness. Rather than making the church more queer friendly.

Its terf arguments without saying it out loud. And they want to do it with each letter as they all get peeled away. Trans and enbys are the easy ones cause the straights think theyre icky and confusing. Then the bisexuality cause sigh they just need to make up their minds, amiright? The gays go next cause lesbians are hot, but two men kissing makes me feel a certain kind if way that i am not ready to deal with. Finally the lesbians are thrown into the kitchen because by then the christofascists have taken over, and a handmaids tale won't be fiction any more.

Proudly queer trans woman here.

The same paper that invented the October 7 mass rape narrative? Or had a Berlin office claiming that Hitler was A-ok to the Jews in 1938?

Log Cabin Republicans (LCR) is an organization of LGBT members of the Republican Party and straight allies who work to increase inclusion within the party, and to voice Republican values among the LGBT community.^[2]^ LCR has over 30 chapters from about half of the states and the District of Columbia.

Quick facts Abbreviation, Formation ...

LCR began in 1977 during opposition to an anti-gay ballot initiative in California, defeated in 1978. The organization has endorsed or withheld endorsement of Republican presidential candidates based on perceived agreement on varying issues regarding equality and inclusion.

Log Cabin Republicans filed a federal lawsuit against the Don't Ask, Don't Tell (DADT) government policy, which went to trial in 2010. The presiding judge ruled in favor of LCR in September, finding the policy unconstitutional, though the decision was vacated a year later after DADT was repealed in December 2010.

LCR has no official position regarding abortion, believes in a strong national defense, and supports national equality for transgender people, with some "guardrails". In the 2020s, several state chapters took positions against transgender rights, which brought criticism from broader advocacy and rights groups. Other critics say LCR is too centrist regarding party principles. More recent criticism involves LCR's continued support for President Trump after his administrations' actions against certain rights for transgender people.

I’m ignorant, and I hope someone can clue me in: what does “queer” actually mean in this context? The dictionary is useless.

[–] toomanypancakes@crazypeople.online 5 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Not a conservative gay I believe. Too left to be respectable.

[–] magnetosphere@fedia.io 2 points 4 days ago (1 children)

So, in general, queer people are cool and don’t want to take away the rights of others.

It sounds to me like this, overall, is actually a good thing. Conservatives are beginning to acknowledge that they have lost their fight against “sexual deviance” as a whole, and are now reduced to arguing about what kinds of sexual orientation are acceptable. Let them play their word games.

[–] applebusch@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 4 days ago (1 children)

no its not a good thing theyre trying to erode acceptance of queerness in general. right now theyre making an exception for gay people, but that is temporary. in time they will stop making that exception.

[–] magnetosphere@fedia.io 1 points 4 days ago

We won’t let them. They’ll just lose again.
