If you need a specific majority to pass a resolution (in this case rejecting chat control), then how did chat control get passed in the first place? How did they get majority in the first place?
People don't understand the importance of privacy and spyware corps such as Meta, Alphabet and Microsoft pay good money for data. I'm sure more than one pocket has been lined.
It passed in 2021. In March this year, its extension was denied, which required an absolute majority which was achieved with a bare-minimum 1-vote margin. This latest action was apparently abusing some arcane procedural nonsense where it was a reworded version of the same law and was allowed to be treated as another extension. Looks like whoever was doing this also timed it to be during peak vacation season so that there would be fewer MEPs present and it would be much less likely they could get that absolute majority.
