conservatives, boomers, maybe genx.
Ultimately, everyone, because associations, clubs and small towns are mainly or exclusively active on Facebook: anyone who wants to take part will still have to use Facebook. 🤷
Along with facial recognition they must ask us to upload some proofs to prove we are humans.
The truth is, they already have all of our data.
they also ask for ID too.
More and fresh is better.
The cynical part of me thinks that there is a different reason for implementing this, and that any bot that drives engagement is valuable to the platform owners.
This is just a product of the age verification bullshit.
Some companies are asking to upload drivers licences, others are asking for banking info. All being marketed as a benefit, and getting a checkmark beside your name.
And here almost every week theres a email from some company getting hacked and personal info being accessed/stolen.
I had recently signed back for a service with a company I have not done business with for 20 years, they somehow still had my old account info and address details. I was and still am pissed.
Not just hacked or stolen, also freely sold to third parties and governments to aggregate into private profiles
My LiveJournal account is 25 years old as of last week. I’m just going to go back to that for social media.
What are they gonna do, accuse me of being too old for social media?
I went back to fark.com and I’m so happy it’s still doing well.
What a time to be alive 🤦♂️
Only if you can prove it!
Mitch is missing out.
Zuck seems to be trying to boost his data for the facial recognition feature on Meta glasses. 🙈
zuck needs to upload more info about humans into his android body.
Based on a facial recognition selfie, checked against your existing profile pics
They've been doing this for a long time, but supposedly for bot-detection; which are now just using LLMs to generate slop to game the platform and its users. But with human users now possibly considered unauthentic by others, because they haven't yet de-anonymized themselves.
It teasing a "reimagined experience" that will test full-screen videos for a section of users "the moment they open the app." is an interesting choice, when addictive design features for its platforms are under scrutiny. But I guess it only addresses the problem in relation to children; adults of course being fair game, which could be another reason to be extra cautious and use age-estimation in the verification process.
The irony is that platforms spent years making anonymity optional, then built engagement systems that rewarded the worst actors anyway. Now the proposed fix is more identity, more biometric data and more addictive UX.
