Ye Power Trippin' Bastards

1831 readers
161 users here now

This is a community in the spirit of "Am I The Asshole" where people can post their own bans from lemmy or reddit or whatever and get some feedback from others whether the ban was justified or not.

Sometimes one just wants to be able to challenge the arguments some mod made and this could be the place for that.

Posting Guidelines

All posts should follow this basic structure:

  1. Which mods/admins were being Power Tripping Bastards?
  2. What sanction did they impose (e.g. community ban, instance ban, removed comment)?
  3. Provide a screenshot of the relevant modlog entry (don’t de-obfuscate mod names).
  4. Provide a screenshot and explanation of the cause of the sanction (e.g. the post/comment that was removed, or got you banned).
  5. Explain why you think its unfair and how you would like the situation to be remedied.

Rules

Expect to receive feedback about your posts, they might even be negative.

Make sure you follow this instance's code of conduct. In other words we won't allow bellyaching about being sanctioned for hate speech or bigotry.

YPTB matrix channel: For real-time discussions about bastards or to appeal mod actions in YPTB itself.

As part of the devs farewell message on their site, they have included malicious code to make each visitor sends 2,000 requests to the dbzer0 servers in an attempt to DDOS and take the instance offline.

It's funny that he didn't DDoS the Nazi instances he sprinkled in his blocklist.

Always the critics of fascism that get the short end of dark triads. ╮(︶▽︶)╭

I think he might be focused on dbzer0 in particular because they're the ones who first exposed his secret censorship.

Probably not a political choice, but a personal grudge. If a nazi instance had been the first one to expose him, he probably would have targeted them.

It's totally revenge. Db0 is the one who exposed him and from his perspective, ruined his reputation.

It's all his fault of course but he's not going to take responsibility for his own actions. We wouldn't be here in this thread now if he was.

That's why all this noise about being illegal is noise. Unless he's done something to upset their faction, the only ones getting prosecuted are the ones who retaliated. Maybe he would get prosecuted, off chance. It's wild to me how they think dissenters wouldn't also be prosecuted.

Considering many nations are unmasking their fascist tendencies, he’s got plenty of boots he can kiss for a good dismissal.
As anarchists, we are well aware how laws oppress the have-nots. So he absolutely knew DDoSing db0 was the least possible retaliatory target.

How does dbzer0 end up in every controversy on lemmy ever?

Half the time they arent even the controversial ones in the situation

[–] Taleya@aussie.zone 18 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Because they host ye power tripping bastards, which lists mod abuse

[–] atopi@piefed.blahaj.zone 1 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Most arent even related to that community

[–] Taleya@aussie.zone 10 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

They are, tangentially.

There's a lot of purity politicking and porridge-only level censorship on lemmy. Db0 tends to allow adults and hyperbole. So you have this combination of wildly overstepping mods / upper tier users used to throwing their weight around "ummmaaa you said a naughty word!!" coming face to face with an entire instance of people they can't control and who don't really care either, with a comm that documents mod abuse and said mods lose their everloving shit at the loss of control.

[–] goferking0 10 points 6 days ago

Because most of the time the controversy is there precisely to make db0 look bad.

[–] Dave@lemmy.nz 20 points 6 days ago

Do we have fediverse historians writing this stuff down? I feel like we need a knowyourmeme for fediverse drama.

[–] SCmSTR@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Very much "fuck you in particular"

[–] sorghum@sh.itjust.works 17 points 6 days ago (2 children)

You don't know the half of it. When he "quit" the fediverse last year anyone that downvotes his post was banned from dubvee on his way out with this as the ban message

Very much a manchild having another temper tantrum.

[–] Ophrys@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 6 days ago

Oh wait is this the dubvee guy? I was less active before on lemmy but anything that had a dubvee handle was the was just pure liquefied brainworm

[–] calliope@retrolemmy.com 118 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

Way to prove you were an asshole literally the entire time.

At first the douchebag tried to play it off like they were doing a good thing by trying to make the fediverse easier to navigate for newcomers.

…by DDOSing an instance? Sure, Jan. What a little coward.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 10 points 6 days ago

It blocked the entirety of Blahaj. That should have immediately informed everyone exactly what it was for

[–] slazer2au@lemmy.world 92 points 1 week ago (75 children)

Surely that is actually illegal in some places.

[–] rhombus@sh.itjust.works 9 points 6 days ago

If he’s US based it’s very illegal. DDOSing can carry a prison sentence of up to 10 years. His hosting provider already took it down, and I’m pretty sure they’re obligated to report criminal activity on their networks, so this guy is probably fucked.

[–] ProbablyUnwise@anarchist.nexus 39 points 1 week ago (4 children)

unless you live on the moon, which legally cannot be "owned" by any country and therefore isn't under the jurisdiction of any country, then this is, in fact, illegal in every place.

In response to this startrek.website defederated from dbo. Also weird how the framing of the defedederation lines up so well to what ap and Kirk would say.

https://startrek.website/post/42709922

If you’re not familiar with how Lemmy/the Fediverse works, basically everything you read at StarTrek.website is hosted by us, even if the content originated elsewhere. That means we are responsible for everything here and we have to decide if we are comfortable boosting content from other instances.

If you’re curious, the final straw here was learning that db0 explicitly allows hosting discussions about hurting people, which needless to say goes against our instance values and we simply don’t have the manpower to moderate that volume of content incoming from their server to a degree that we feel meets our quality standards, which left defederating as the only viable option.

In keeping in line with past trends we’re announcing this because is is a larger instance and don’t want to leave any of the crew confused as to why something may be missing.
