CoMaps or Organic Maps: Where is the community? (feddit.org)

I am aware that there was some dispute and I am using CoMaps since then. Today I discovered (thanks @naja@feddit.org !), that Organic Maps has routing for Public transport, a feature I miss dearly on CoMaps.

Now I wonder: Has Organic Maps a bigger, more active community of devs? Should I switch back to it? Or are both equally actively developed, only with different priorities?

We don't have precise usage stats but CoMaps went over Organic Maps in terms of edits sent to OSM.

So at least the users that contribute back arr mostly on CoMaps.

CoMaps feels much more active within the OSM community compared to Organic Maps that seems to be just doing their things in their own corner.

Also I took a look at their repos, Organic Maps is using Claude Code a lot, while CoMaps has a much stricter AI usage policy, and is on codeberg, an open source host instead of using Github.

I know where to place my bets.

To have more accurate info, CoMaps has surpassed Organic Maps only in June 2026 (so very recent, and no data yet to show it's a stable trend), and only in edit counts (not in number of contributors yet). That still confirms what I said. The people most involved in OSM mostly migrated to CoMaps. Organic Maps still has a lot of inertia and a large userbase that probably isn't aware of CoMaps, but I still see more stable future for CoMaps than Organic Maps.

I was a long time Organic Maps contributor that switched to CoMaps eventually after having both on my phone for a while. The reasoning was simple: CoMaps have frequent map updates, and it also supports Panoramax. My own perspective is that CoMaps has a lot more active development.

I can't answer your question. But there is a comaps community on sopuli. !Comaps@sopuli.xyz . I am not going back to OM btw.
