XCOM: Chimera Squad delivers an all-new story and turn-based tactical combat experience in the XCOM universe.

After years of alien rule, humanity won the war for Earth. But when the Overlords fled the planet, they left their former soldiers behind. Now, five years after the events of XCOM 2, humans and aliens are working together to forge a civilization of cooperation and coexistence.

Welcome to City 31, a model of peace in a post-invasion world. However, not all of Earth's inhabitants support interspecies alliance. Chimera Squad, an elite force of human and alien agents, must work together to destroy the underground threats driving the city toward chaos.

Your agents are unique: each is equipped with special tactical abilities and driven by a different motivation for joining Chimera Squad. Deploy targeted team members to investigate and combat the dangers that pervade the districts of City 31. Lead Chimera Squad through a new experience that innovates on XCOM's turn-based legacy, utilizing strategy, teamwork, and new breach-and-clear gameplay to complete your mission objectives.

The future of City 31 depends on you.

I'm a big fan of EU/EW and XCOM2/WotC but all I know about this one is that it's a bit different, anyone played it before?

Its a very experimental spinoff that feels a bit more like tactical RPGs rather than the classic XCom formula. Its definitely not as good as the mainline games, but it still fun and offers something different.

Yepp. It's playable once, but if you go in expecting the mainline stuff, you'll be disappointed.

Thanks, I'm always in favour of going in with low expectations

It has a fixed character roster in a "XCOM-Alien-Police" spin-off-scenario and levels and gameplay that are focused on breaching and clearing buildings (like police special forces). It is fun and has good, fresh ideas. It is smaller in scale than a mainline XCOM though. I liked it and I think it is worth playing.

Nice, going in with the idea that it's trying something different to normal xcom is good to know, thanks

Yes, the game was meant to be experimental even by the developers. I remember how it released in 2020 without any prior announcement or marketing and literally had a 50% discount at launch. They wanted to try out new stuff without any expectations and see how the fanbase reacts. (In addition to attracting fresh players into the XCOM franchise at a lower price point)
