I'd encourage everyone with an interest in Why We Design Our Homes And Cities Like We Do to have a look at the rest of her content. Concise, informative, charming, shows her research methods and sources which is often as fascinating as the results.

As someone single living with mental health challenges in a 1br apartment, this video really resonated for me. It sucks that the only way of accessing a "home cooked" meal is to pay 3-4 times as much as I would otherwise be paying to feed myself.

Simple answer: "greed".

People found out that serve low income pop is not profitable as serve middle or upper class. Got to squeeze every of penny from real estate value there, in the big city.

My dad took me to an automat when I was pretty young. I don't remember much of the experience.
