Just wanted to say thanks to the dev of this great app. I'll be leaving Lemmy because I just can't stand the amount of circle jerking communities there are, but while I was here I enjoyed the app itself.

Good job, and thanks for your service!

Once you subscribe to the stuff you want and stick to home, you're pretty good...

Diving into All? Be ready to block all the anime furry porn.

HOLY FUCK THERE ARE SO MANY FURRY SUBS

[-] Yawnder@lemmy.zip 5 points 10 months ago

I guess I should try following more communities.

Btw, I haven't seen a single furry community. Haven't been on the lookout though.

Yeah, once you have a curated feed, it's actually pretty good, and the search function for communities makes it pretty easy.

But I definitely see why All is a turn off. I only dip into it occasionally to see if there's something new that might be of interest.

I spent a day or two mashing "block community" and have a decent feed now, but if they continue to crop up faster than quality subs grow it will be a frustration.

Apparently a new version of Lemmy is coming soon which will allow users to block entire instances without having to fully defederate them.

So if you find you're getting a lot of bullshit communities from, I dunno, lemm.ee (just using that as an example, not saying they're an offender), you'll be able to block all of it in one shot.

[-] Yawnder@lemmy.zip 3 points 10 months ago

I'll give it another shot then!

Nice! Just use the search and find the communities you're interested in, subscribe to them, and stick mostly to "Home", popping into "All" once a week or once a month to see what's new. Or blockable. Or new and blockable. ;)

My block list is easily 500+ at this point, only because I'm not willing to follow the magazines I enjoy things from

It's not an airport dude, you don't need to announce your departure

I get it.. I have a lot of filtered communities on the everything page. But i am sticking it out still. I only browse 30 min or so a day so it isn't terrible. But also subscribing to the few communities with content i want to see regularly helps a lot as well.

[-] Yawnder@lemmy.zip 3 points 10 months ago

That's what I should do, but to find communities, you need to browse more or less, and I just see these 5 or so communities (the most annoying are blocked) and I wish I could filter them out of All, but keep them in "my feed" or whatever.

[-] jordanlund@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago

Yeah, right now if you block it, it's blocked.

I go into All and sort by New and it's all the subs that are being seeded with new content right now, either new subs trying to gain traction or people crossposting stuff.

Right now it's "Flyers" for some reason, must be hockey season I guess. :)

That's the same reason I've been browsing Reddit less and less.

[-] Yawnder@lemmy.zip 4 points 10 months ago

On Reddit (haven't been in a few months now) I felt like the annoying communities were all blocked (by the end I think I had about 170 filtered subreddits...) but here it feels like my feed is 80% about adblocking. You go on technology, it's not about techs in general, it's about how to block YouTube.

There are a few good memes though. I'll miss that.

Dunnning Kruger is strong here.

It just doesn't apply to this context, but good try.
