Liz' disclaimer at the beginning made me expect more dumb old man shit about wokeness, but she was really just priming the libs in their audience for a guy explaining why he didn't condemn Hamas for the Al-Aqsa Flood.

I know Finklestein is persona non grata around here, but I thought his voice and expertise here is valuable. I genuinely thought him talking through his moral uncertainty about how to view the flood as the civilian death toll rose was really interesting, and about how rather than just choose a side he went to listen to historical arguments of similar scenarios like the Nat Turner or Warsaw Ghetto uprisings.

Norm's still a problematic boomer but he remains a major resource and comrade with respect to Palestine.

Why do people dislike him here? Apart from the boomer shit that StalinwasaGryffindor mentioned, from his podcast appearances the only thing I've taken pause at was him being critical of BDS. But I've yet to hear what his alternative to BDS is and he otherwise seems sincere in his Palestine activism. I get Zionists hating him but outside of r/trueanon left spaces seem to be more sceptical than supportive of him.

Pretty close to being a transphobe to the point of being extremely confrontational about whether he'd use pronouns and stuff. Forget which podcast this was on, was it the Adam Friedland show episode maybe? Also he'll go on anyone that'll have him at this point, so a lot of right-wing things. Also used to be a Maoist but was disillusioned by the Dengist turn in the '70s so what his current, actual politics isn't super defined.

I also forgot how bad the anti-woke brainworms are. He has interesting stuff to say on so many topics but yeah, no excuse for that stuff. At least with Norm you can tell whatever he says he legitimately believes which is something at least. I also don't think he's a mean spirited person at all which makes the anti-woke stuff that much more confusing.

Finkelstein has a couple boomer complaints about wokeness and cancel culture, but he’s still such an intelligent and passionate advocate for Palestine that I hope people will overlook it
