the best advice I got in life regarding social interactions (specially at work) is from the penguins of madagascar. Wave and smile. If you can't wave, nod. Always agree and say "oh my" "really" "that's great/horrible". People love me at the office and that's all I do
"Sympathetic but uninterested" is the tone I go for.
"I ain't reading all that. I'm happy for u tho. Or sorry that happened."
And they seek my affirmation or opinion after. It's already super awkward and now my options are awkwardly give advice or awkwardly tell them it's way too awkward. I just wanted to clean my coffee mug 😭
I know what you mean, but that's just life. You have deal with unusual people and too much information and shit.
