Their continued lack of success is their own fault though. Aprilia and KTM both when through their shit years and built good bikes. Do we really think Yamaha and Honda need or deserve special early concession treatment that other manufacturers weren't afforded just because they had never been the big dogs before?

My thinking here is that Honda has had a shit bike for years and it just hasn't shown because Marquez was riding it beyond the limit. The same rings true to me for Yamaha to a lesser extent with Quatararo riding to his only MotoGP world championship. Outside of those two riders, neither bike has been truly competitive week in and week out for years. I see concessions as something to help the engineers more than the riders which is why I think they may be due for both of the Japanese factories.
on the one hand, i think they should struggle through.
on the other hand, i think it would be great to see them back in the sport and i really don't want them to pull out. it fucking sucks to see Marquez not finishing a single race and Quartararo finishing outside the points.
KTM and Aprilia are both a force now, so concessions really worked there.
the only thing that doesn't sit right with me is changing the rules to give them concessions sooner, i think it should be fairly clear-cut - if they meet the requirement, they get the concession. no changing rules because it's honda.
personally i'd like to see them get the concessions though, particularly because they're focussed on developing the bike, and i'd really like to see both honda and yamaha have the opportunity to develop the bike a bit more before next season.
I'd love to see all the manufacturers really in the game next year. I'm worried yamaha will pull out entirely - they only have 2 riders on the grid and they're both backmarkers. it'd be a huge blow to the sport.
