If the name changes, won’t another community with the same name just pop up? (lemmy.world)

Maybe I am failing to understand the point here, but if the name gets changed, what would be the point if a new PC Master Race community can just get remade afterwards? The name of this community is really the only differentiating piece of identity that makes this community different from any other PC gaming community.

In my opinion, there is no way the community should even be entertaining the idea of changing the name.

The name has meaning to the community, it’s really only the political landscape that has changed (very recently) where people are way too over sensitive and the vocal minority of complainers have somehow managed to force people to bend to their feigned outrage.

If anyone has a sense of humour, they wouldn’t look twice at the name and think “oh these people love Hitler and must be dog whistling nazism” (to use some of their buzzwords)

Don’t give in or even acknowledge the whiners, that’s what they want. It’s like a new form of outrage trolling.

Just ignore them

...gonna be honest here, I've never given the name enough thought to make the connection. Just assumed it was all about clowning on console and mobile gamers and that was it.

Right, you have the correct outlook on it.

The people who see it differently have spent too much time online and have been taught to look for these things and then work to get them changed.

Do what you do with all of the trolls and just ignore them and they will go away

A PC or a Console arent analogous to human beings. A PC gamer is not a race, it’s a joke about being a superior platform.

Yes, and the pcmr name has been argued to death and back several times at this point. This whole exercise is fucking stupid.

I would imagine this community would still exist, but with a stickied post directing to the new name. Assuming stickied posts exist in Lemmy.

That is what the current pinned post here mentions that it will do. But even in that case, one could still make a PCMR community on a different instance than Lemmy.world. As more and more users subscribe to that instance's PCMR community, it will overshadow this one when new users search for a PCMR community on Lemmy. The only users who end up following the pinned post here to the new non-MR community will be the ones specifically searching just this instance for a PCMR community.
