Hey everyone! been a bit since I ran my last AMA so am running a new one. Feel free to throw down some questions below and ill answer them. (my AMAs are more asynchonous but everyone should get answers)

I'm a student in university and typically do both web and game development. Youll likely have seen me in the instance doing things related to community management to make sure things are running smoothly

Pangora is the name of the programming.dev lemmy fork thats been getting built up slowly with pangora-ui being the new frontend being made (very early alpha is up at https://beta.pangora.social and community on programming.dev is at !pangora@programming.dev )

Other misc topics I can answer about: I compose music & make pixel art, my favorite games are minecraft, SCP:SL, everhood, battlerite, and metal slug 3, and recent games ive been playing are Mistward, Revita, and Puzzmo

Just commenting here to thank you the mods. I use this instance to browse lemmy at work since the url looks professional enough for IT.

Yeah no problem, thanks for using it! Credit goes to snowe for getting the url and starting this place up

And credit goes to you for continuing to keep it running. ๐Ÿ™

What improvements would you like to see to the backend to make developing the front end better?

[-] Ategon@programming.dev 2 points 8 months ago

Ive been finding the link between backend and frontend is fine for me to make frontend features pretty easily so dont know what improvements can be made on that front. This main things hindering development for me is the fact the backend is in rust which this is the first time im using it for a project and theres some niche things I want for certain features that need to be developed in the backend (being able to query for posts from multiple communities at once, having things in the modlog not be in separate categories and instead be returned together, etc.)

Just curious, which year are you?(guessing you are doing bachelor).

[-] Ategon@programming.dev 3 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago)

im in my fourth year at the university but the uni considers me third year due to me being in a co-op program since they dont have a fifth year standing

Are you afraid of crunch in the gaming industry?

[-] Ategon@programming.dev 3 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago)

Yeah crunch in gamedev tends to be pretty bad. (Although there's also fun crunch in gamejams I bring upon myself but thats less of a job)

The game industry in general is something I'm likely going to avoid for a primary job due to low pay and stress and just be something I do as a hobby. Been enjoying doing web dev in internships

I'm in canada so last week wasn't Thanksgiving for me, it was in October

But it was pretty good, visited some family in Toronto

[-] ExperimentalGuy@programming.dev 1 points 8 months ago

Damn that's cool. What do u mean thanksgiving was in October?

[-] Ategon@programming.dev 1 points 8 months ago

Each country has their own date they celebrate thanksgiving on. In Canadas case its early october since that lines up with the end of the harvest season and it avoids cold weather that usually arrives end of october/november. Just assumed you asked the question cause most peoples thanksgiving just happened
