Go in your options and disable the app. I use Firefox as well and it opens them up directly in there now.
Thanks!
This issue is more of a problem with android itself rather than with jerboa... One of the easiest way to deal with it is to disable the official youtube app.
At least, that's what I do.
I will do so as well, thanks!
Use Newpipe. It plays youtube (and several video sites') videos without any ads nor trackings. No Google account needed.
Install it and set it as the app for opening youtube links in system settings.
Note that the app is not available in Google Play store. It can be installed from f-droid, or you can directly download its apk.
I'll have to check this out!
Press and hold the Youtube app icon. Click App Info. Choose More. Scroll down to Open by Default. Toggle off the Open Supported Links.
If you don't like the ads, you can use YouTube Revanced. The app offers a much better experience than in a browser (especially for me, with a slow device). Here's a website you can download a pre-built from: www.revanced.io
Youtube links open your browser if you uninstall the youtube app using adb
If you don't use the app at all just delete it. I did and my links open Firefox with ublock origin for an ad free experience.
Thanks! I'll try deleting it, but I suspect my phone might download it again behind my back.
If that happens then you might still be able to disable it like someone else suggested.
I'm not sure if this is available on Android, but Vinegar, which is a Safari extension, for iOS basically gives you YouTube premium, except Vinegar is a one-time payment of something around $5.
There are no ads; it auto-plays videos at 1080p; AND you can swipe up to make the picture-in-picture (or whatever it's called) where you can go to other apps or turn off the screen and keep a video playing.
If you're on iOS, this is what you're looking for, my friend!
Thanks for the help everyone I have disabled the youtube app while I check out alternatives! I really appreciate y'all not making me feel like an idiot.

Android controls that, not Jerboa, unfortunately. But you can easily change it in settings.
Thanks! I am not a technology oriented person so I had no idea.
Jerboa
Jerboa is a native-android client for Lemmy, built using the native android framework, Jetpack Compose.
Warning: You can submit issues, but between Lemmy and lemmy-ui, I probably won't have too much time to work on them. Learn jetpack compose like I did if you want to help make this app better.
