dammit, nothing's working right, I've been trying from the browser and from Connect, everything is fucky 🫀 comments not going in the right place, things loading very slowly

maybe it's my shitty rural Internet plus everyone being home for the holidays and streaming? idk, but I'm having a hell of a time trying to do the most basic shit

The changes have also resulted in a redesign in the app which is very subtle but I still do not like it 🫀

I know most of you do not use an app and do not care

I'll get over it, but I'm bummed to have my Favorite Thing be weird and different, I liked it how it was. I know the upgrades were purposeful, and I'll get used to them and even appreciate them, but I'm disappointed about them right now.

It's a bad interpersonal time, it would have been nice for me individually for this little bit of interpersonal stuff to stay stable but 🀷

who knows what everyone else needs, but whatever it is, I'll go along ❀️

sorry, most of the changes are from upstream lemmy, and I try my best to reduce/undo the number of frontend changes they make, but sometimes they go a little too far and make it a lot of work to maintain hexbear-specific changes. also, third-party apps are completely out of our control as well; its up to them to update to 0.19 and whatnot.

Oh man, I'm super sorry, I didn't mean to be bitching about your work. I genuinely appreciate everything you all do to keep the site running, and I should have mentioned in all this whining that I was grateful that the downtime was so much less than expected.

Thank you for your time and labor, and for responding kindly to my stupid bitching! I sincerely apologize for it..

No no need to apology, just trying to give some background info. I'm the same way; i hate when updates change things in the UI after you get use to it. I do try to minimize it as best I can, but most of the changes on lemmy are out of my hands unless i dedicate a big chunk of time into making changes and then maintaining them every lemmy update.

I hate being logged out every time I close firefox's installed app on my tablet. I think the mods figured Christmas would be slow enough to not bother to many people.

They didn't count on how many of us hate being with our families for the holidays?!?

Maybe it's a minority of us, I assume they assessed server traffic before picking a day to do it.

It's not just Hexbear though, unfortunately the app I use (Connect) also updated/changed things too, but 🀷

I'll get used to it eventually

We're probably gonna see that a lot until the tech gets time to settle. Hopefully it won't be as bad as Apple and Windows moving things for no reason each major update.

[–] blakeus12@hexbear.net 3 points 2 years ago

wait what changed?

[–] buckykat@hexbear.net 4 points 2 years ago (1 children)

It's been loading faster for me and I had no trouble with logins after clearing cookies for the site since the update

[–] the_itsb@hexbear.net 3 points 2 years ago

Everything is much faster now! And clearing all my stuff - I ended up deleting and reinstalling the app because I couldn't figure out how to clear its cache πŸ˜‚πŸ€¦- did get me logged back in, and everything has been working great since then.

I'm just old and whiny, sorry!

[–] Yurt_Owl@hexbear.net 4 points 2 years ago

Oddly been working fine for me but I have my Firefox set to clear cookies cache and history on close

Most things are working but I can’t clear notifications except by clearing all of them

[–] Infamousblt@hexbear.net 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

So on mobile if you hit back it takes you honestly to some random other page. Which was fine as long as I generally knew where I ended up I could hit back or next at the bottom and get back to where I was. But the back is gone now so I hit back on my phone, it takes me somewhere random, and then if back on the web would fix it, I'm stuck. Gotta go back to the homepage and then go back again from there. It's extra confusing that my workaround to some random other bug is also totally fucked. It's so annoying I hate it.

'Previous' button is now back, give it a try

[–] Infamousblt@hexbear.net 2 points 2 years ago

Nice, thanks. It's working

My RUN DMC post isn't showing up under anything but new: https://hexbear.net/post/1435343?scrollToComments=false

[–] doublenut@lemm.ee 2 points 2 years ago

Yeah liftoff won't let me log back in and links to certain sites don't open in any if my apps and some won't even open externally

Some funky shit.

[–] impiri@lemm.ee 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

It's been a little wacky lately. I can see my comments in the phone client but not on hexbear.net, so I hope there's just some temporary Lemmy stuff going on and I didn't get sent to the phantom zone

You may be interested to know that I only just got the notification about your reply to my post today! There's another reply from another non-local account that also appeared at the same time.

[–] impiri@lemm.ee 2 points 2 years ago

Thank you! I assumed my initial reply would never make it over, so your message is much appreciated. :)

As a browser-only user, the update fixed a lot of bugs, added new features, made everything faster, and broke nothing that I've noticed, other than some minor comment styling that is already fixed
