Mostly I was posting the information above in case someone else has a beeping fire alarm system as it might be like our one and not like yours. I can't imagine that one took off!
I've lived in a place with a fire alarm system like that, but the beep is because the backup battery is flat or the unit needs to be replaced.
Most smoke detectors are essentially a small radioactive lump with a Geiger counter next to it; if smoke gets in between it blocks the radiation and if the number of radiation "hits" falls below a threshold in a set time period the alarm goes off. So, as radioactive things have a half life, there's a point where the radiation emitted falls below the original threshold and you need to replace it. We fucked around with the batteries in ours for ages assuming one of them was low, but eventually replaced the detector itself and the beeping stopped.
The legal protection in this case being a literal high court judge having to check the person is not being coerced and sign it off. That's a pretty high bar in my opinion!
It's not possible for that to happen in the UK without a further bill in Parliament. I believe in Canada the law has changed as a result of decisions by the courts.
Agree with this, I have both Element and Fluffychat on android.
Fluffychat is nicer than Element in some ways, but it has some quirks around sharing files - I can't get it to share multiple files from a gallery, and sometimes if it hasn't been open recently the share action starts it up but nothing actually gets shared, and you have to repeat the action. It also tends to glitch if rotated to landscape and back again.
I keep Element on the device but disabled so I don't have both running, but enable it any time I need to do something that fluffychat can't manage.
They are both being actively developed so things are constantly improving.

I got absolutely devoured this weekend up by Loch Latrine (edit: Katrine) (completely forgot it was midge season, so I was unprepared).
The 5800X3D has the same core architecture as the 5800X but it runs at 11% lower base and 4% lower boost clocks. The lower clocks are in exchange for an extra 64MB of cache (96MB up from 32MB) and around 40% more money. For most real-world tasks performance is comparable to the 5800X. Cache sensitive scenarios such as low res. canned game benchmarks with a 3090-Ti ($2,000 USD) benefit at the cost of everything else. Be wary of sponsored reviews with cherry picked games that showcase the wins, conveniently ignore frame drops and gloss over the losses. Also watch out for AMD’s army of Neanderthal social media accounts on reddit, forums and youtube, they will be singing their own praises as usual. Instead of focusing on real-world performance, AMD’s marketers aim to dupe consumers with bankrolled headlines. The same tactics were used with the Radeon 5000 series GPUs. Zen 4 needs to bring substantial IPC improvements for all workloads, rather than overpriced "3D" marketing gimmicks. New PC builders have little reason to look further than the $260 12600K which, at a fraction of the price, offers better all round performance in gaming, desktop and workstation applications. Users with an existing AM4 build should wait just a few more months for better performance at lower prices with Raptor Lake or even Zen 4. Will it though? Seems like the kind of task that requires a huge amount of effort, way beyond the kind of capacity you get from casual contributions in peoples' spare time...might be difficult to maintain feature parity and implement new standards without a full time team on it.

Future incidents probably will still happen, but when you develop in the open it's much easier for people to trust you when you talk about incident response and mitigation, because they can see what's happening out in the open. In contrast, nobody trusts Reddit to do what they say.
