Ah, the panic of having to use the bathroom so severely you can't make it to your book or magazine in time. Oh look, I wonder what Methyllaurelsulfate does?

I always thought the bathroom reader books were tacky and stupid, then a I got a couple and they came in clutch so many times.

Now that I have a phone, I think it's kinda gross to have items out for everyone to touch while using the toilet. Weird how perception changes.

Tangentially, isn't the phrase, "WITH abandon," to mean unchecked, or unrestrained?

  1. Happy Birthday!
  2. They're great. You'll be surprised how often you'll run to check it after seeing the generic weather and compare them. Mine also isn't in the right place for the wind, but it gets enough I can pretty confidently multiply by a percentage to get the real number. I hope you find yours as interesting as I do.

I think it's important that you know that another human being on Lemmy got both sides of your joke. You earned my upvote.

If we're going that far, then no radio or person either. Black holes have disappeared from Hawking radiation, protons have all decayed, and the distribution of energy is so even and so rarified no exchange can happen, so literally nothing can happen.

If we allow a magic radio, we can allow a magic air bubble.

JUST IN: The jury has reached a verdict in Donald Trump’s hush money criminal trial in New York. The verdict will be read in court shortly. The 12-person jury has been considering whether Trump is guilty of 34 counts of falsifying business records, which are all connected to the alleged cover up of hush money payments to adult film star Stormy Daniels. The jury must be unanimous in its decision. Trump has pleaded not guilty to the charges in the case and denies the affair with Daniels.

His FCC brought back net Neutrality. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/net-neutrality-fcc/

His CFPB put up limits to anti-consumer terms for payday loans and bank fees. https://www.americanprogress.org/article/the-cfpb-is-cleaning-up-junk-fees/

His administration raised fees for oil drilling in several major areas, although he also approved a large number of drilling permits so this may be a wash. https://apnews.com/article/oil-gas-drilling-public-lands-interior-climate-ffc88438d6f9c5d48e9a8fc7cffc749a

The UAW endorsed Biden. This gets weird, because many blame Biden for ending the rail strike, which he did, and which echoes the Bush Sr. Foul play with ATCs and pilots. But in exchange for ending the strike they got nearly everything they were asking for in the first place. Fain plays hardball and has probably gotten more for unions and their members than almost anyone, if he's okay with Biden, I'm inclined to agree.

Surewhynotlem is right...buuuut. Shorting is very much like betting, in that the more people who bet the same way, the worse those odds get; like how a bookmaker does things to balance cash in vs cash out.

The bookie reduces exposure by changing payout odds as betting increases on one side, so you win less and less as more people buy in on a specific bet over time.

In this case, the fees, which are the price of "buying" the short bet go up and up as more people get in line to short. That means the short has to go very far very fast to make up the initial share cost plus fees.

TLDR, you could short the stock, but so many people already have, the fees are starting to become prohibitive unless you have a large bankroll for investing.

I also got several with internal reflections between the filter and the lens. Thought it was kind of cool.

This should be another origin scenario for Cyberpunk 2077.

There's still plenty of time for Rockstar to make this a mission in GTAVI.

If this functions to poll users broadly, then count another one for NOT federating. I came to Lemmy to not have my feed dominated by a tsunami of corporate junk curated by one of the worst influences in modern society. And if the counter argument is that I can block their content, then you can go join threads. I have no desire to be on a service where the majority of other users are constanly being fed crap from Meta and then interacting here, even if I can't see the initial influence. I can go elsewhere, sure, and will if they federate, but I like it so far and would rather not. But consider, at least, the kind of thing .world will become if the only people here are people who think, "Hey, maybe Zuck's new project won't be so bad!"

Yes! I wonder how a company working with Cambridge analytica to start a war, and influence elections worldwide, who sold children's personal information illegaly in EU, and gleefully partcipates in the Prism surveillance program, would be? 🤔 I mean it's not like they just gutted their staff trying to deal with misinformation for the 24 election. We simply can't predict how they might behave!
