Reading The Clown by Heinrich Böll.

Probably his most famous novel this book mostly criticises post war catholic/capitalist German society for it’s hypocrisy and not really denazifying. It’s good, but the main character, who loses his girlfriend to a catholic and is handling it pretty badly is quite the doomer at times. There is enough cynical humor, sarcasm and irony to not make it too dark to read, but depending on how the story ends it definitely could become pretty dark in the end. It also cuts very close to home with some issues, but that rather enhances the reading experience, despite being quite uncomfortable at times. At times it’s a bit hard to discern wether the author did something on purpose to give his protagonist some negative traits, or if he just believed that stuff himself (especially how women are treated is pretty bad) but I’m quite sure that I’ll be able to judge this better by the end of the book. Overall I’d recommend reading it, but it’s definitely an emotional downer.

Those are such nice resources that I didn’t know of! Thanks a lot, gonna dig into both in the next weeks.

How did I never hear about this? I definitely need Hercules with lightsabers in my life now!

On a side note it’s crazy how many times the trailer guy said the name of the movie. Every sentence gotta involve Hercules at least once.

If they went all out like that I’d respect it a lot more. Give me the Odyssey but make everyone look straight outta Warhammer or something crazy like that.

Poor guy. Classic case of nominative determinism.

I don’t care about historical accuracy. For all I care they could be fighting in pink miniskirts if it looks good and makes sense with the setting of the story. I just think this is disappointing because he looks like a mall ninjas idea of a badass.

Every creatively dead Netflix/Prime fantasy franchise has the same shein-ass looking costume design nowadays.

Achilles is gonna load up on monster energy before he naruto-runs to vanquish his enemies.

And by vanquish I mean getting stabbed in the heel and fucking dying.

M3 MacBook Advice (lemmy.world)
submitted 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) by Augustiner@lemmy.world to c/apple_enthusiast@lemmy.world

My old and trusty MacBook is slowly giving up and I’m trying to replace it. I’ve been looking at the m3 pro line for a replacement.

Currently I’m debating wether a 14-Inch 12 core CPU, 18 core GPU, 1 TB SSD, or the 16-Inch 12 core CPU, 18 core GPU, 500 GB SSD makes more sense.

I like the small size and larger SSD of the 14 Inch version, but I’m kinda scared that it’ll get hot faster than the bigger version or have less power somehow.

My tasks include handling documents, editing large photos and videos and very rarely some 3D stuff in blender. I also wanna play some BG3 from time to time.

What would you choose? Are those good choices for the jobs I want it to do? Is my fear of the small one being a little too powerful for its size justified? Or do you say get something else entirely?

Thanks for your help in advance!

Took this last summer in Italy. Big bird isn’t really dangerous for the little one (they don’t eat other birds).
