https://www.bloomberg.com/news/newsletters/2023-05-05/why-google-keeps-paying-mozilla-s-firefox-even-as-chrome-dominates

“One thing Mozilla does have going for it is a lot of money—more than $1 billion in cash reserves, according to its latest financial statement. The primary source of this capital is Google, which pays Mozilla to be the default search engine on the Firefox home page. Those payments, which started in 2005, have been increasing—up 50% over the past decade, to more than $450 million, even as the total number of Firefox users has plummeted. In 2021 these payments accounted for 83% of Mozilla’s revenue.”

You mean the nonprofit company that is dependent completely on a contract with google to stay solvent? Ya, firefox will definitely never be pressured by google... Bruh

6a latest updates including security patches. I’ve experienced a few really frustrating bugs and would like the communities help to figure out possible causes or solutions.

  1. Google assistant crashes after the trigger phrase is said.

Solution: google app clear cache and data

  1. Alarms quick tile is not showing the next alarm, but is showing the next due date/time associated with a task in Microsoft to-do. Clicking the tile opens Microsoft todo to the task. This occurs even though the next alarm is before this tasks due date/time.

Why isn’t the tile opening the clock/alarm app?!?!?!?

Solution: ?? Help ??

  1. Poor modem reception for lte/5g networks. Sitting in the car, Girlfriends iPhone had strong 5g, pixel kept dropping network and not operating voice or data. Restarts didn’t work.

Solution: ?? Help ??

Pixel launcher. It's sufficient, but lawnchair works too if you require more customization.

Beseen internet chatrooms, ICQ, every website was someone's personal project, they just made it for fun. Yahoo messenger pool games and online chess. Php message boards and the communities that formed around those.

The early internet was so slow that everything was text based. Talking to other people was the primary form of interaction and nothing was really monetized. Everything was just there because it was nerd shit and people found homes, and communities, and belonging. It was real world values on a screen, not the influencer driven, 30sec video affiliate links shallow, corporate conglomerate that it is now.

That's why I appreciate the fediverse. It feels like real people just playing with technology and talking to each other.

Google pixel for the following reasons:

Smart insights via Google assistant:

  1. Bill due soon reminders via Google assistant. It can read my email and remind me of upcoming bills, their amount, who it's too, and when it's due. Sends a notification to the phone.

  2. Finance watchlist notification: at the end of each market day it will send me a notification just showing me how my watchlist performed for the day

Phone:

  1. Call screening, business calls, spam, and robo

  2. Hold for me feature.

  3. Phone trees visual

  4. Visual voicemail - live transcripts

Google translate:

  1. Live translation of audio

  2. Translate any sign or text via Google lens

  3. Search visually via Google lens

Customization

  1. Theme settings independent of device. You can set each app individually. Some apps are better in light mode

Google assistant integration in the phone. Call and text people, reduce volume, paused audio, set volume, google search, turn on flash light etc. You can control features of your phone with your voice. It's fantastic.

It's a really smart, smart phone.

The states are Arkansas, Maryland, Mississippi, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas.

The U.S. Constitution states in Article 6 that "no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States."

In 1961, the Supreme Court ruled in Torcaso v. Watkins that a person could not be denied the office of notary public for not being a believer because it "unconstitutionally invades his freedom of belief and religion guaranteed by the First Amendment and protected by the Fourteenth Amendment from infringement by the States."

Infinity for reddit mentioned trying to keep developing and if they can't get API access, they said pivoting to a lemmy client is on the table. They posted this in their sub on reddit.

Exciting since I infinity for reddit is a fdroid only client that rawks!

Give it time. The community was very small for a very long time. There wasn't a big need or push for detailed mobile functionality.

The ruins of Rome are never as cushy as the empire. But give it time. Pizzas on the way brother.
