Middle density housing is severely lacking in most of Canada. Montréal is one of the few cities that does have a bit of mid-density housing and its housing costs are lower than most other similar sized cities. Obviously there's many more factors but I definitely think mid density is important for reducing this crisis.

Honestly I just hope this backfires and less Canadians end up using Facebook, we'd definitely be much better off

The efficiency of CC is higher when you're doing what you're saying and capturing at the source but it's still incredibly inefficient and the costs are just astronomical to get it anywhere near a level that would actually make a dent in the emissions. With the current costs today, it would actually be cheaper to tear down a coal power plant and build TWO wind farms that supplied the same amount of energy each than it would be to build CC to capture a fraction of the emissions generated by the coal plant.

And before anyone says that the costs of CC will come down in the future... So will wind farm costs and solar costs, so in the end why build something to reduce emissions when you could build something to completely eliminate them for CHEAPER instead?

When I sort by hot in my subscribed feed it becomes flooded with posts from the worldnews community, posts that are multiple days old or even with negative scores, even though I'm subscribed to many other communities and when visiting those communities can find posts that are newer, and have more engagement than the ones I'm seeing from worldnews. And when I say flooded I mean I will have 5-6 posts in a row, followed by 1 post from another community, and then another 5-6 worldnews posts. Has anyone else had a similar experience? Is there anything I can do other than just unsubscribing from worldnews?

I know the recent patch added that you now have to long press on the username to have the action bar appear on comments in your inbox but personally I find that a redundant step and preferred the way it was before, could it possibly be an option in the settings to turn the action bar on by default?

While I agree religion should be kept out of schools, I still think religious students deserve the ability to practice their chosen religion. At the end of the day a "prayer room" is just an empty quiet room where kids can go to do a religious prayer or do some "secular contemplation". There's nothing inherently religious about a quiet room, and it's not like the school is forcing every student to attend mass or perform daily prayers, it's simply an accommodation made to students who have a daily task to do based on their beliefs

In Montreal today, lawyers for the Canadian Civil Liberties Association and the National Council of Canadian Muslims told the court that the ban would cause irreparable harm if it is not suspended while a court challenge is heard on the merits of their case.

When I was in highschool (late 10s) you were allowed to have your phone on you in class, it wasn't instantly taken away if they saw the outline in your pocket, but you weren't allowed to use it in class.

"What we've seen now from the past month of heat is that the high-elevation snow is rapidly depleting," said Jonathan Boyd, a hydrologist with B.C.'s River Forecast Centre. "We're on pace to be the earliest snow-free that the province has recorded."

If not you can just delete this post and maybe add a rule in the sidebar to make it clear this is a place to post communities not ask for communities.

If this IS allowed then does anyone know if there is a community similar to /r/dataisbeautiful?

One good thing about multiple communities based on instances is you can have regional communities based on what instance they are on. /c/politics on lemmy.ml is technically neutral, but we all know its meant to be American politics, so opening a /c/politics on lemmy.ca even though it has the same name would serve a different purpose and be centered around Canadian politics instead.

Overall though I definitely think a multireddit type solution needs to be created for this, that way similar communities could be grouped together and mass subscribed to all at once.

It's a good start atleast, better than trying to privatize the system like they are doing with healthcare
