Your stances are admirable and I understand your sentiment but they are relics of a past you were privileged to live in for those decades (others didn't share that experience and have been going through this without national attention). Your reality has now shifted and I hope that you'll be able to come to terms with those changes and not regress into authoritarian sympathies like your relatives thinking "if only they could do it peacefully".

Enough people have pointed out the flaw in the "self-defense" scenarios you're imagining, I don't believe you will come around to those without heavy education/exposure on past & current events involving police interaction and constitutional rights (there are a lot of good resources and public "auditors" online you should seek out). I will just point out the slippery slope that exists with the Sheriffs statements, "What is a brick?" - at what point does a brick become a rock/pebble or vice versa? "What is a firebomb?" - if any incendiary device is considered lethal, do firecrackers or sparklers count since it ignites?

An officer in full tactical/riot gear getting hit with a brick isn't lethal, yet a "non-lethal" firearm can kill from a shot in the face or beanbag to the chest in close range. Teargas can cause a fatal reaction if not treated in time. The "law-enforcement" in this instance have decided due-process (once again) isn't necessary and will pass judgement on your actions while punishing you with state-sponsored violence and/or death.

The lines have already been drawn, "People that want to protest will be met with big force... this is people that hate our country. They will be met with heavy force." -Trump

People have already decided on their stance, the various and numerous polls show basically the same support that Trump was elected with. Their goal is to silence the 30-50% that heavily oppose and demonize them in the eye of public opinion. It's an effective campaign. Trump supporters who still follow want the chaos and clap-down of rights to "protect them" from their perceived threats. The neutral parties just want to be left alone in their comfort and don't want to be imposed upon (these are the same neutral parties like in Nazi Germany) and will take any excuse to condemn "violent protestors" whether it's factual or actually representative of the movement as a whole. There will be no "reconciliation" or changing of people's minds till the fascists come directly for them and effect negative outcomes in their lives (just like they condemn peaceful protests because they're in a street).

love how you crumple from any push-back on your false narrative.

[–] Cataphract@lemmy.ml 2 points 4 weeks ago (3 children)

This is the type of Pearl-clutching/fear mongering that lives in a head filled with propaganda. There are already laws in place which cover this type of fake scenario, the article itself dismisses the claims you're trying to make. Find me a valid use-case for this law, there are hundreds of instances where the exact opposite happens and vehicles are used as a weapon to assault protesters but all you got are fictional "what ifs"? Don't drive into a protest..... Use common sense when you see a group of people gathered on the street like any sane person would.

[–] Cataphract@lemmy.ml 6 points 4 weeks ago

Ran into someone with that attitude, their sole purpose on this site is to parrot the same crap over and over. They're just instigators who don't really care, should always take the time to call out the BS. In reality, they would probably be voting for Trump if they lived in the states since they seem like the same kind of personality that would falsely believe he's their savior and a "strongman".

[–] Cataphract@lemmy.ml 4 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

This is such an insane and imaginative comment. Are the century old Americans that talk to you in the room with you right now? It's absolutely crazy how you've taken some individual comments or perceived attitudes and created this fantasy land where you now have "owned the dipshits". Let's ignore the assassination attempts, current and planned protests going on through-out the country, people getting arrested for standing up for their fellow citizens, LUIGI!!, the college protests going on for months/years, this is such a selective memory you're touting. This isn't like the UK/Scotland police that just sit there peacefully (5 people were there initially and stopped their immigration enforcement per the article). Yet still we have hundreds and thousands of people still showing up and continuing to fight while you whine and complain online.

Holy shit, your entire engagement in this site is just comments about American "cowards". Why haven't you tried to immigrate and show Americans how it's really done since you're such a mister big boy bad ass? You seem to care enough to removed about it everyday but not do anything about it?

prepare to be even more profoundly jealous because I'm profoundly dumbfounded at this point.

"What is Habeas Corpus?" joking, but I guess my minds been so fractured from this administration it doesn't even consider the constitutional protections America has.

It does make me wonder about the presidential line of succession though. The Speaker of the house is 3rd in line, they could all get together tomorrow and vote him in.

The Constitution does not explicitly require the speaker to be an incumbent member of the House of Representatives... permitting a non-member to serve as Speaker would effectively exempt Speakers from the eligibility requirements of the House Qualifications Clause of Article I, Section II and from being bound by an oath of office under the Oath or Affirmation Clause of Article VI as opposed to House members. (link)

Would be fascinating to see how something like that would play out, scary, but still fascinating in a historical precedence kinda way.

I'm calling it now so I can link to it in 3 years, Musk is wanting to make a presidential run.

like @peoplebeproblems@midwest.social said, this show has a purpose and I think Trump is planning on going even harder and now they have someone they can pass the torch off to since they've already vetted his ideology and love his money. Gotta distance yourself at some point so you can swing in and be the "savior". He can lay the whole DOGE think on the current administration getting in the way and will totally be a conservative this time. The comments and rhetoric around Elon are already starting to be softer now that he's in this feud with Trump.

Sincerely thank you for commenting. I was completely dumbfounded with @Warl0k3@lemmy.world's statement and wasn't sure if I wanted to waste my time with a response if it was just trolling.

[–] Cataphract@lemmy.ml -2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

It seems like you're giving of a "victim" vibe with this by stating you wished for only a particular type of "positive response" when you've posted a misleading comment and doubled-down with "EULAs half the people in this thread have already clicked thru" which you have no way of knowing.

StormGate - Privacy Policy and End User Agreement. Is this just the new industry standard to avoid? (post made by me 10 months ago)

Why don't you see it more?

Steam Discussion deleted after questioning the "EULA" of Stormgate, another post by me after I tried to inform others and was suppressed, meaning the reviews is the only course of action that most have at their disposal. Even posting on their official subreddit did no good with the exact same type of response you've presented here,

Why am I consenting to have my "Medical Information", "Browser/Search History", "Social Security/Drivers License number", "Geolocation and movements", and more collected to play Stormgate? (22k members, only 122 upvotes)

(the responses)

  • They didn't collect such information (they technically couldn't), they are giving examples of such types of personally identifiable information.
  • Yeah, it's excessive, they don't need half of this. However, writing it this way makes it near impossible for them to screw up by accident. If you play games, you probably agreed to a handful of ELUA's like that by now.
  • This keeps getting brought up in every controversial game these days and the answer is always the same: They aren't.
  • Most of this is not out of the ordinary.
  • Imagine thinking all of this information about you isn't already owned by several corporations lol.
  • Some of these stuffs are required in X countries not yours, stop thinking the entire world is all about you buddy.

You've officially become part of the problem and an ally to the very same reason why we can't "accomplish the organized action needed for real change (than leaving a bunch of negative reviews.)"

I'm really curious on what actual specific steps you took to "check". It took me about a few minutes of reading to find it.

Crazy different feel to this with the up-scaling done. For me, it makes you feel like you're on the set with them. Unfortunately, it makes you feel like you're on a set lol.

part 2

I don't know about you guys but the behind the scenes videos are what get me really interested again and let me enjoy subsequent rewatches even more.

I just wanted to use my voice to let everyone know about this since it seems to be something they want to Streisand effect. I made a discussion on the stormgate steam page about how their EULA has a bad link to their privacy policy and asked why the information listed in the policy is being collected. It had to go through the review process since it contained links and then after being posted was deleted from my history after an hour (I guess when someone actually laid eyes on it)

For the full details I already made a post in the privacy community asking if this was a common occurrence. I'm attempting to reach out through other avenues for some type of explanation but just getting crickets or brick walls. Please use caution and common sense when downloading and consenting to agreements from game companies.

The highlights if you don't feel like clicking the link:

Rather peeved about all of this. Been waiting for this game for ages and was excited about the F2P aspect then found out a lot of elements of the game are locked behind paywalls making the full game costing way over most AAA games. Ok, lets roll on anyways and see what the game has to offer. Then I get to the privacy policy and realize they're using anti-cheat services to monitor your game, I continued reading the user agreement and then had to find their actual privacy policy page because they have it listed under a different url then what they have posted. Some Highlights from the user agreement:

  • You have the resources necessary to easily reinstall the operating system for the computer system that you will use to take part in the Alpha or Beta Test as well as to restore any and all data that may be lost;

It just goes on and on with some really sketchy stuff, then I get to the privacy policy:

I've stopped playing previous games that use these tactics and programs because there's just too many other games that don't require these that are available. This was a game I was hoping to get back into with some RTS friends I've made along the way, Is this just the way of the world or something to avoid?

This is the official ride video that was thankfully saved. If anyone has VR and has watched it like that let me know how it went! From Stargate fandom wiki

  • a simulator thrill ride based around the highly successful MGM television series Stargate SG-1 that made its debut at The Space Center in Bremen and Germany in December, 2003. A reproduction has now been built at Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom, Six Flags Great America and Six Flags Marine World (which is now Six Flags Discovery Kingdom). As of 2006, Six Flags Great America no longer shows Stargate SG-3000.
  • 3000 years after the events of Stargate SG-1, the Stargate Network has long since been shut down by the Asgard. However, the network now becomes active again and the stored consciousness of General George S. Hammond reactivates to guide new SG team members through the gate to stop Satra, the daughter of Apophis who wishes to get revenge for the death of her father.

It's... interesting what they were trying to do with the IP. Apparently in 2021 the simulator was purchased by Hennie van der Most to be installed at Attractiepark Rotterdam (hard to follow the trail after that without translations but doubt they have the rights to show the old ride).

Some other interesting things to note:

From CoasterBuzz (2004)

MGM's syndicated Stargate SG-1 television show will be the basis for a simulator film showing at three Six Flags parks this year, including Marine World, Kentucky Kingdom and Great America. Stargate SG 3000 features a four-minute simulation film that lets audiences experience what happens when they soar through the Stargate into different dimensions. The 20-minute overall guest experience includes a themed queuing area, the mission briefing/pre-show and the motion simulator theater.

Facebook link to a set of photos taken while the exhibit was open, includes the queue area and a shot of the "pre-show".

The original Trailer for the ride

  • Also hoping to find the original pre-show and more information on the rides setup, no hits so far though.

Over the years I've been surprised by the number of mods created by fans of the show while waiting for an official IP game (Timekeepers does exist now, but is a very niche game). I thought this would be a good place to highlight some of those and will probably turn it into a side-bar spoiler.

What are some of your favorite mods you've ran across? I will populate and edit a list with the responses. If you wish to rate or describe the mod I will include that and your username as well. Links will be helpful but not necessary.

MinecraftModrinth Modpack - Stargate Eternity 7: Galaxy

Curseforge Mod List - Too many to individually list, link takes you to the search page

::: spoiler Stellaris Stargate Universe Reborn - Full conversion mod. Allows you to control your favorite race while trying to conquer the galaxy. :::

Space Empires IV and VTauri Shipset (SEV)

A lot of repositories are unfortunately not working now but Captain Kwok will hopefully be updating his website with all the files

XCom 2Stargate Glyph Face Paint and Voice packs

This was an hour long special released on Sci-fi on January 17th, 2005. Some hilarious interactions including reading online questions posed by viewers and a special Pierre Bernard and Micheal Shank interview!

Sorry for the vague question but I'm hoping there's a lot I"m missing. I know I can edit the side bar, icon, and banner. Make the community public or private and there's a "mod posting only" option. But is that it?

Some things I'm wondering about,

  • can I turn downvotes off or is that an instance only thing? (fan community, off topic would just be removed)
  • Is there any other way to manipulate the community page like backgrounds etc?
  • Flair's or post tags? Any community settings I looked over?
  • Allowing or disallowing bots (again is this an instance thing?)

I'm fine with what it is, just wanted to make sure there wasn't more I was missing with my options in the community.

Bonus question, besides crossposting and the "new communities" community sections, is there anything else I should do with a fresh community?

Just love everything about this segment and a truly awesome look behind the scenes.

Will be posting up the rest of the segments in chronological order in the cross-posted community
