If I was back in college and using Linux for the first time, I'd probably go with Fedora tbh. Arch is a pain in the rump for a first-time user and Fedora really is a "it just works" distro whilst still maintaining speed and keeping things up to date with it's (more or less) rolling release schedule.

I didn't use Linux in college, but I did use many FOSS tools. LibreOffice is easily my favorite office suite and there's no contest. So long as you export your documents as .PDF or submit them as .DOCX, nobody is likely to know or even care what you used to type them.

This is likely to be similar for other types of software- as long as your finished product is compatible and looks good on the proprietary software, you shouldn't run into any issues.

BTW, the university had student access for Microsoft Office. I could have chosen to use their tools at any time and I simply chose not to.

My first real relationship was in high school at age 18 with somebody who left me kinda burned out with their lack of maturity. It was a rather unhealthy relationship that ended after about a year. After that, I went out with a couple people in college but it never led to anything. Now I'm 24 and last year I met somebody really special. We've been seeing each other for about half a year now and I can confidently say I'm glad to have waited before finding myself in something serious. I truly feel loved and cared for with a certain stability that I didn't have at 18.

I think most people just say Ubuntu to indicate the Ubuntu family of distros. A help guide for vanilla Ubuntu running GNOME should work the same way for Kubuntu with very minor changes i.e. adding a repository for the GNOME software manager vs the KDE software manager.

For me, it's gotta be Namibia. It's a country in Southern Africa, and the only reason I've come to be aware of it was because I've made a very fortunate contact whilst talking on amateur radio. Two consecutive Decembers I happened upon the same gentleman on the 10 meter band, and he confirmed my QSOs (contacts) on the logbook!

Ah yeah, you know the gold plated connections make all the difference for the fiber optic connection

Won't that just cause the boot loop again where it reboots because on my laptop Arch won't start with it enabled?

Disabling TPM fixed my issue! Thanks!

Just installed updates from Pacman, not even touching the AUR. Now when I reboot machine, this happens. It just reboots itself and the cycle repeats itself. Any solutions?

This worked :]

I don't know how I ganked it. Was trying to screw with config stuff to set up MPD because I've never done it before. Now I turn on the machine and it is missing the ly greeter. Instead, I type in my username and password and it gives me a terminal. I have no idea what to do now. Got me considering the nuclear option (wave a white flag and install over this drive with Debian).

Help?

Edit: the ly display manager bit the dust for some reason. Just installed sddm and now I'm back in business!

Edit 2: Apparently ly just needed a new symlink because they changed something and the old one no longer works. Back to using my favorite display manager and using my computer as I usually do. Thanks for the help, folks! Y'all are great <3

Hey there, folks! Currently playing around with a laptop that's got three SSDs. Running Arch but that isn't quite related. I have everything configured on one SSD, the other two are totally fresh. What do I need to do to setup one of those fresh SSDs for Timeshift backups? Please walk me through it from the very start- I think I understand some parts but I'm not too certain.

I can format the drives using mkfs.btrfs without any issues, but I'm confused about how I can add subvolumes and configure their root permissions properly to allow Timeshift snapshots.

EDIT: I see now that I misunderstood what Timeshift does. New question- which tool can I use to make a backup of my entire filesystem onto another drive such that it can be restored?

It's my awesome buddy and I B)

Please check them out on Toyhouse, this goobster got me into the furry hobby and their art just keeps getting better over the years <3 https://toyhou.se/AcidicLemonz

I started out in this hobby about five years ago with an Olight S2R Baton II. That was a fantastic light and I found myself purchasing more and more flashlights. It took me long enough, but now I'm truly through the deep-end. Getting into Emisar and Noctigon lights has turned me into a tint junkie, and if a light doesn't use Anduril 2, I'm no longer interested!

This is my current collection, including the brand new (and most recent addition) Emisar DA1K. The new Lume X1 driver really is a huge step forward for Hank's lineup, and I couldn't be more pleased with just how low that LED can shine without any flicker or stutter! Absolutely hyped to watch it become the standard for the next generation of Emisar/Noctigon!
