I tried explaining these weren't jokes and it told me humor is subjective

Well obviously; doctors make terrible lawyers

[–] Evilsandwichman@hexbear.net 5 points 1 week ago (4 children)

I'm gonna be honest, this one's not so strange; the law is gigantic with many little details in it that you have to specialize. This isn't general practitioner level medicine where any dimwit yokel can be like 'hyuck, put some cream on it!'; this actually takes years of practice and learning to get every little detail of how the laws work, using precedents and fact finding. The law is vast and every area, every little detail contains a world of little laws and how they're affected, and even different states can have their own versions of those laws; this isn't just looking at someone's anus and putting on your big boy hat and saying 'hurdy hur, thar's a hemorrhoid!'

That's clearly not a crane; more like a tractor really

It's the beret making him look French

Colonize France and install this guy as the ~~shah~~ ~~Juan Guaido~~ King of France.

[–] Evilsandwichman@hexbear.net 21 points 1 week ago

Honestly that's the most likely case (admittedly I don't seriously think the kid said this); if the kid has media literacy enough to understand the Barovians are supposed to be Israeli, he's smart enough to know it's the creators who would hate Israel (if they even do), not a fictional character.

What a disgusting kid by the way; he sees Superman preventing unarmed civilians from being massacred and rather than ask why the people who made the movie hate jews (which would still be incorrect), he asks why someone intent on preventing massacres of unarmed civilians hates jews (and let's not even talk about how he sees himself in the violent white colonizers and the Gazans in unarmed brown civilians). What an utterly lousy kid.

the homeland that was founded on the ruins of the people who behaved like them in Europe in the 1930s.

What an absolutely disgusting human being; Palestinians, and yes that includes Hamas, have a right to defend themselves from colonial invaders.

I still don't get the people complaining about the Nazis being the bad guys in the new Wolfenstein games; absolute tourists

[–] Evilsandwichman@hexbear.net 22 points 1 week ago

Literally the only reason I went to go see a movie I was initially going to miss.

[–] Evilsandwichman@hexbear.net 21 points 1 week ago

Not major spoilers but:

spoilerIt's not Superman himself, it's the movie (although it's not 'anti-Jew', it's anti-Israeli); Barovia is a US ally and they're being armed by the US and they're invading a brown country (that actually looks and sounds more Indian than Middle Eastern but Israelis probably can't tell different brown people apart). There's a ton of bureaucracy yelling down Superman for getting involved and stopping the Barovian army early on in the movie.

I basically read what everyone here is quick to say to laugh at him at having gone from emperor to broomsweep, but apparently he was actually an example of an excellent success at bringing him down to earth with his fellow countrymen. No one here ever mentions this aspect; I only discovered this when I got curious and looked up his wikipedia page.

I'm sure we have some real bangers coming up that'll trounce this one, but it's at least the worst take of the month.

Real life cyberpunk was never going to be the flashy or cool stuff we created in fiction, just losers exercising their political power to be oppressive losers.

EDIT: Also they're being told to self-deport because otherwise the government will do it.

Mia Schem was the former detainee who said Hamasremovedd her with their eyes and said there are no innocent civilians in Gaza.

No one deservesremoved whatsoever, period, and I hope the authorities go after the man who did it.

Israel, in addition to its horrific host of crimes, also has a serious issue with giving sex offenders safe harbor:

Honestly I would've thought someone as high profile as she's become would be immune to something like this, but apparently not.

France 24 article about it (I don't think they mention the execution):

Honestly no idea if the three men were guilty or just had the blame pinned on them.

So I'd like to be able to access my PC from my phone at any time and wherever I am; how would I do that?

My PC is a windows 10 and my phone is a samsung

I ask while posting this in an African country that curiously speaks French (maybe French was like originally from Senegal idk) while planning to vacation in another African country that also curiously only speaks French, with some African friends I made from different African countries that also curiously only speak French.

Found this; the sentiment is utterly ludicrous:

I'm reminded of something I read Ibrahim Traore of Burkina Faso was saying a few months ago, something about how women in Burkina Faso mourn in black when culturally they used to wear blue; that black was the color favored by the colonizers and not something of their own culture.

Chuds crying about not being allowed to celebrate their culture is just picard

I remember when I had windows 7 that updates were ongoing until like....what, Windows 10 was out? In between 7 and 10 was windows 8 and that was terrible. I was hoping to hold onto 10 until 12 was out and that 12 would be better, but 10 is going to stop being updated in October and there's no sign of 12 coming any time soon (and no guarantee it'll be better than 11 to be honest).

I recall windows 98 was great (or windows 98 second edition), windows 2000 was terrible, and then windows XP dropped and that was fantastic again. I was thinking maybe we'd see the same pattern here, but apparently it's still too soon. I really don't want to switch to windows 11 (and don't anyone suggest Linux) but I may have to; additionally my current PC is apparently also not able to meet hardware requirements for 11 (which seems impossible; it's thankfully fairly decked out in the best stuff money could buy in 2016, which should still be powerful) so I'll have to get a new PC or a custom build a new one (I would rather a custom job to be honest).

And then of course you have to go through the steps to turn off as much of the crappy spyware they have going on in windows 11 too. This is genuinely going to suck.

You want silly virtue signaling gestures, then this has to be the silliest I've seen in a while now.

Are these people five?

So in my experience that makes both seasons of squid games, parasite and the horror movie 'the host' (also another Korean movie but I can't recall the name of it)

At first you go in and it's like Space marines? Fancy armor, with fancy helmets, sometimes aquila designs and wreaths and such, perhaps roman-like helmets, capes on occasion, skulls on different parts, etc.

But then you go down one corridor, and suddenly you've been down every corridor: pipes, grates, pipes, grates, pipes, grates.

So the emperor had some really fancy pants ideas for armor but he couldn't spare a moment to think of the decor?

You go into one European palace and you see golden walls, curtains draped everywhere, chandeliers, beautiful artwork, fancy tables and chairs; but in 40k it's like they had the decor of every human infested planet or ship designed by the ninja turtles.

Every 40k game makes the levels look like the ones from Necromunda hired gun, except instead of brown they go with grey. They look hideous.

Apparently this case is famous in Italy, not so much anywhere else. Transcript:

If you’re not Italian, you’ve likely never heard of Nicola Calipari, the Italian secret service agent murdered in Iraq by US soldiers. This is his story.

On February 4, 2005 — exactly 20 years ago — Italian journalist Giuliana Sgrena was kidnapped by Iraqi insurgents. Nicola Calipari, a senior officer in the Italian military intelligence service (then SISMI), was tasked with securing her release.

Calipari quickly established contact with the kidnappers, initiating negotiations despite the precarious circumstances. However, the Americans made it clear to their Italian counterparts that they opposed any form of negotiation, instead favouring a military raid to resolve the situation. Undeterred, Calipari pressed on, and one month later, he successfully secured Sgrena’s release.

During her release, the kidnappers warned Sgrena about the dangers she faced from American forces. They urged her to conceal her identity, stating: “If the Americans recognise you, they’ll open fire on you and everyone else. We’ve promised your family you’ll return home, but the Americans don’t want you to make it back alive”. The Italian agents escorting her were acutely aware of the risks. One of Calipari’s colleagues cautioned him: “Get her to safety before sunset, or the Americans will shoot at you”.

After securing Sgrena’s freedom, Calipari personally accompanied her to safety, driving her to Baghdad International Airport for her return to Italy. As their car approached a US military checkpoint near the airport, it came under heavy gunfire from American soldiers. Calipari, sitting beside Sgrena, shielded her with his body and was struck by a fatal bullet, sacrificing his life to protect her.

The Americans later claimed they fired in self-defence, asserting that the car posed a threat. This is a brazen lies. There is overwhelming evidence the US forces were fully aware of who was in the vehicle. At the time, the Americans closely monitored foreign communications in Iraq and would have known every detail of the operation to free Sgrena. Additionally, the soldiers gave no warning before opening fire, and analysis of the 58 bullets fired at the car reveals that 57 were aimed at the passengers, with only the final shot targeting the engine. This pattern indicates that the intention was not to stop the vehicle but to eliminate all its occupants — not just the Italian secret service agents but Sgrena as well.

These details, along with other evidence, suggest that the attack was a deliberate act, likely carried out under orders. A joint investigation by Italian and American authorities was launched but failed to reach a definitive conclusion, primarily due to American resistance. To this day, justice has not been served for Calipari’s death. Another American cover-up to add to the blood-stained list.

Here in Italy, Calipari is remembered as a national hero, his sacrifice emblematic of his commitment to protecting others, even at the cost of his own life — and of how Americans treat their supposed “allies”.
