At that point, it's purely ideology and contempt for anyone beneath them.
Democracies need a system to set long term goals and kick out any politicians violating the goals.
Yeah, there are studies about this. Once people get a certain amount is power, empathy starts to break down and they can't see other people's perspective anymore. That means they also don't care about others anymore.

250 years is the average runtime of empires, so pretty much on schedule. About three lifespans where the new generation forgets the ideals of the old generation until people turn into self serving pricks that sell out there own nation.

The uncomfortable part of all this is that it is not a technology problem. It is a leadership problem. AI does not make bad executives worse. It gives them a faster way to prove they are bad.
