I work in a customer facing position in the US where factions of an inch are used for measurements frequently in the design of a product. I deal with people who don't know 5/8 is smaller than 3/4 or that 3/8 is smaller than 1/2 on literally a daily basis.

People are dumb and I absolutely believe the burger anecdote.

I landed myself a solid salary job as a head of a department and as a reward my wife gave me permission to go wild with a new Keeb.

Enter the blue beauty.

Mode Sonnet - Navy body, brass bass, brass internal weight. Internal silicone mat, foam kit, POM plate, Durock V2 Gold Stabilizers.

Gateron Oil King linear switches.

GMK Blue Samurai doubleshot ABS Keycaps.

I am in love with looks and feel of this thing and can wait to put in some hours in front of the computer with it.

This has given me an absolute aneurysm. I saved something to show the wife only for it to not be there when I went looking. I found the post the long way and sure enough it was still saved.

Maube it was a glitch....

Unsave and resave. still can't find it. rinse and repeat.

Eventually found out about the saving order quirk and sure enough all the way at the bottom was the saved post in question.

Counterpoint is the bullshit Google did with all their icons. Same exact colors with different shapes makes quick differentiation an actual challenge.

I got a new camera and my cats have been patiently dealing with being in front of the camera nearly constantly.

According to about 12 seconds of googling this article feels borderline. This article specifically references a 2010 study that says 12% of women carry the gene however the article fails to mention what the study specifically says. In the opening paragraph if the study it says "However, the existing evidence is sparse and inconclusive." & "Our results suggest that most carriers of color anomaly do not exhibit four-dimensional color vision, and so we believe that anomalous trichromacy is unlikely to be maintained by an advantage to the carriers in discriminating colors."

I found three different studies regarding this. One said that it was about 15% of women, one said it was 50% of women and 8% of men. Another said that women with color vision defficiency and mild color blindness might have tetrachomacy effectively rendering the extra cones pointless. ANOTHER study showed that only one person EVER had been diagnosed with Tetrachomacy.

While I really appreciate media that brings to light conditions that the average person might not know about I really dislike articles and media that make things seem way more common then they are and/or portray things as fact that are far more nuanced. We already have enough people self diagnosing themselves or self identifying with abilities/disabilities

I'm currently stuck at home with a lower back injury looking for low impact stuff to keep me busy so I had my wife swing through the dollar store and buy me a bunch of colored paper stock and foam board as well as some fake sticky-back tiles. Used some lights I had lying around from my days as a mechanic and I don't think it turned out too bad.

My wife started to tear up during the final montage. Unrelated, I happened to be sitting under a sprinkler.

Sorry if this is not the right place to ask this kind of question, my options on Lemmy are kind of limited.

I play around a lot with experimental types of music and have been using a series of poly-rythm soundscapes that I have created for sleep aid. A couple of friends tried out the stuff I created and said it was amazing for sleep and relaxation.

This gave me the idea for an app that created the poly-rythm soundscapes using simple(ish) formulas that allowed the user to change the scale, scale mode, duration, ambient effects, and poly-meter type to suit their preferences.

I am currently injured and am on disability so have all time and boredom in the world to throw into this project.

My entire programming experience was a single semester of Visual Basic in 2003.

Where would I begin to bring something like this into existence? Thanks in advance.

I'm in agreement on this one. Fun image but doesn't belong here.

Pro tip. If you whisper your request to Alexa it will whisper back to you which will greatly decrease your chances of getting caught setting this up.

Ooooh, I generated probably a dozen or so but this one's my favorite.

Cautionary tale:

For us it was trial and error. We thought we were doing pretty well by keeping track of the weather and balancing the whole house heating vs single room. Until we had a snap freeze that plummeted the temps overnight to an obscene degree. We were comfortably warm in our bedroom as all the pipes in the kitchen and bathroom were bursting.

10's of thousands of dollars in demolition and reconstruction later we have decided that in this instance it's better to waste some small amount of energy keeping the whole house heated rather than risking another catastrophic failure.

Your mileage may vary.

My wife and I were (emphasis on WERE) raised in very religious circles and as such we were "saving ourselves" for marriage at the beginning of our relationship. I was already drifting away from the religious world and thought this practice was dumb but loved her enough for innumerable other reasons that I would go through basically whatever to wait for her.

4 years into our 7 year dating relationship I was very stupid and ended up having a drunken three way with two of her best friends in a public park. Long story. My S.O. never found out from any of us.

One of the women contacted me nearly a decade later drunk and crying in order to confess that she had gotten pregnant from the encounter and had gotten an abortion with her parents help but never told anyone else.

My wife and I dated for 7 years and have been married for just short of 9 years. I moved us to the other side of the country for work to limit the possible interactions with her former friends, and encouraged her in many ways to have as large a friend group as possible in our new life to curtail the desire to reach out to our old group. New address and new phone numbers to make it more difficult for people to find us out of the blue. This will never see the light of day in our relationship.

I love my wife to the ends of the earth and back, this is the one thing (other than the consistency of my bowel movements) I will ever keep from her.

Edit: Spelling

Holy shit, an actually reasonable take on Lemmy regarding subscription services. I genuinely couldn't believe what I was reading and was waiting for the "LOL, JK! Pirate everything, they don't deserve my money and fuck every ad and paid service ine the universe."

Thank you!

I started both these from leftovers from other aquascaping projects just to see what would happen. Both have had major die off both in clean up crew and plants but are somehow still trudging along.

The small one has some algae, hair moss, and (surprisingly) an anubias petit nana hanging onto life.

My large one has had almost complete die off's and only a single plant has survived that I have not quite been able to identify. Looks like some sort of microsword. I glued some cheap USB powered LED's into the lid before sealing off the whole thing with some silicone. I don't run them very often, pretty much just on the weekends, but I'm still surprised they have lasted as long as they have.

This started out life as an aquascaping tank with various types of shrimp and a dwarf lobster. Life happened and I was no longer able to keep up with trimming the various plants and it went crazy.

Eventually I gave up and after the Lobster died I decided to convert it to a closed system just to see what would happen and taped the lid shut to prevent evaporation.

Much to my surprise it has been going really strong. There has been a couple of die offs when moving to different parts of the country but it bounces back pretty quickly. Much better than my other two ecosphere's.

Context: I currently have a back injury and as such my sleep schedule has been destroyed. There are days that I simply cannot get comfortable no matter where I sit/lie.

The other night I was restless and couldn't get comfortable but was feeling tired. I wanted to brew myself a cup of tea but as luck would have it we had run out of fill-able tea bags. I pulled out the metal tea infusers and found that due to an improper cleaning at last use and who knows how long they had been sitting idle they were absolutely disgusting. Some had mold spots and one appeared to be rusting (how aluminum rusts I don't know).

I REALLY wanted my tea so I busted out my cleaning tools and got to work. She woke up to use the restroom and heard me in the kitchen and made it a point to call me out for being weird and that no one in their right mind would be doing what I was doing.

Is that a fair assessment? I only spent about 50 minutes cleaning them.

I swapped out the momentary switch for a standard on/off switch from Amazon for my Eureka Mignon Filtro grinder.

The tiny act of not having to stand there pressing the button in the whole time you are grinding coffee seems petty and ridiculous but genuinely results in a better routine overall. I am now free to focus on other aspects of coffee prep and as a result the routine, even if just for the short time the beans are grinding, is improved

I like multitasking. What can I say.

I was on the fence regarding wether or not to stay subscribed to his YouTube and floatplane.

The "apology" video started to push me towards staying on board until HE LITERALLY SHRUGGED before his apology.

They are talking the talk about doing better, being more accurate, and going over the videos more thoroughly and then they let that COMPLETELY slide? If no one who watched that video ever said "Hey maybe a shrug before your apology might be sending the wrong message?" than there is definitely somethings NG massively wrong at LMG.

The to top things off this Madison stuff comes out of the woodwork?

Yeah, I'm done with LMG. l hope that the talented people who work there either get rid of Linus completely or are able to move on to roles in healthier places.
