dubv is a weird one. You can ignore that one, as it does it to everybody. I think it's someone's self-hosted instance. Being banned there means nothing.

[-] JonsJava@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

Looks like a mod in news didn't know that the ban on FlyingSquid was intentional, and unbanned them thinking I banned them by mistake. I'll fix that.

I moderate politicalmemes. I'm used to it :P

With that said, I appreciate the well wishes.

New mod, new rules (lemmy.world)

Hey. I noticed that the only moderator for this community was banned a year ago, so I requested to take over.

I'm still working on the rules, the banner, and stuff, but one thing - going forward - I know will be a rule:

  • No drama you are a part of. If you're in the thread, don't post it here.

Also, as with all moderators, I'm always looking for people to help out. If you're interested, let me know!

[-] JonsJava@lemmy.world 12 points 2 days ago

Now the cat is out of the bag, I am the one who put it to a vote. I came in to this thread to see if I could get Linkerbaan to at least apologize for actions/words, but they are more interested in "winning" the argument.

Right now, it's not looking good, but we need quite a few more people to vote to know for sure.

[-] JonsJava@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago

I'll say it again, and I cannot emphasize it enough:

MY ONLY REASON FOR BEING HERE IS THAT YOU CALLED MY MODERATORS ZIONISTS.

You asked for the screenshot. I provided it. I don't care about your beef with world news. I was explaining why MANY communities don't want you on their roll-call - you're antagonistic, one-track, and ignore anything that doesn't match your argument.

Example: You still refuse to even acknowledge my fully aired grievance.

[-] JonsJava@lemmy.world 9 points 2 days ago

Why would I explain something I'm not a part of? Check the communities I moderate. I can't speak for them. I can defend them, or berate them, but I'm not them.

[-] JonsJava@lemmy.world 10 points 2 days ago

I love how you refuse to acknowledge my issues with you. Always back to "but whatabout".

This is why I'm done defending you. You won't accept responsibility for how you wrong others.

I'm out.

[-] JonsJava@lemmy.world 9 points 2 days ago

I didn't make that claim. Why would I? I NEVER had beef with you, but you fucking call me a Zionist.

[-] JonsJava@lemmy.world 11 points 2 days ago

You don't realize how arguments work. The onus falls on the one making the claims. Furthermore, I've given you chances when the rest of the mods have begged me not to. I believe in allowing all viewpoints to coexist, but you chose to attack the same people that defend you.

I've shown you what you asked to see. I sent you articles posted by FlyingSquid doing just that, but if it doesn't say EXACTLY what you expect, I get "ah ha! but they didn't say my exact magical incantation!"

Going forward, you're on your own. You're no victim. You're the bully.

How about you explain calling me and the other mods of News Zionists?

[-] JonsJava@lemmy.world 13 points 2 days ago

What an ironic comment since the Zionist mods of /news and /worldnews are the ones that banned me for debunking their literal israeli propaganda. Not sure what this has to do with the mods using the MBFC website which is ran by literal Zionists that label MondoWeiss as unreliable because they are "anti-zionist". If Anything the mods on the .world news sub's have proven they are massive Zionists with that move alone.

Let's start with that one. NONE of the moderators of !news@lemmy.world are Zionists. Throwing around baseless allegations can only lead to strife. I'm a staunch defender of Palestine, and hate what is happening to them.

We use MBFC because we need SOMETHING in place, and there aren't many alternatives. There's no perfect solution, and there are many topics, ASIDE from the middle east, as hard as that is to accept.

I was banned quite a while before the first post. I just didn’t care enough to make a post about it until FlyingZionist wanted to flaunt his mod powers yesterday.

(emphasis added) - you love to call people you are arguing with Zionists.

For a person that claims to only attack with facts and data, you really love attacking us with neither.

[-] JonsJava@lemmy.world 14 points 2 days ago

Calling people you don’t like a Zionist is absolutely in horrible taste.

You treat people badly, you get caught, and you get bans. Hell, let’s let the people decide.

https://a.lemmy.world/lemmy.world/modlog/view?target=3867209

TL;DR - you believe you should be able to post what you want, where you want, and attack anybody who disagrees with you by labeling them “Zionist”. Read the rules (and the room) when posting/commenting, and you’ll have less push back.

The estate should file the claim. They wronged her, not the husband. By having the estate file suit, that would negate anything the husband may have done.

Connect for Lemmy is my daily driver, but there aren't mod tools built in. For most of my moderation, it's either Alexandrite or REST calls.

Are there any native apps with good mod tools?

Started as a shower thought (literally in the shower), but decided to make it more open-ended.

My answer to this would be "watch future seasons of anime that I am waiting on".

I don't see how that could cause a huge ripple through time.

WHAT

  • Former U.S. President Donald J. Trump was shot at a rally in PA.

TRUMPS STATEMENT

“I want to thank The United States Secret Service, and all of Law Enforcement, for their rapid response on the shooting that just took place in Butler, Pennsylvania. Most importantly, I want to extend my condolences to the family of the person at the Rally who was killed, and also to the family of another person that was badly injured. It is incredible that such an act can take place in our Country. Nothing is known at this time about the shooter, who is now dead. I was shot with a bullet that pierced the upper part of my right ear. I knew immediately that something was wrong in that I heard a whizzing sound, shots, and immediately felt the bullet ripping through the skin. Much bleeding took place, so I realized then what was happening. GOD BLESS AMERICA!”

WHAT WE THINK WE KNOW SO FAR

  • gunman is dead
  • Trump "is fine"
  • one attendee is dead
  • another attendee is in critical condition

Hello fellow Lemmys. The mod team here at !news@lemmy.world has been in discussions about the best approach to ensure we stay unbiased with news during the U.S. Election Cycle.

While we can't say "don't point out flaws in candidates" - nor would we want to - we do believe that when you excessively post/comment/reply negative things in News about one person, instead of, say mixing it up about topics, this feels like you are using !news@lemmy.world as a propaganda machine.

While propaganda is a normal part of elections, by posting only one topic, about one person, you are abusing the NEWS community for politics, and this could even be seen as election interference. There are other communities that this would fit better.

Doing this will result in posts/comments being deleted (with the option to appeal, of course). Repeat offenders may see temporary bans. Keep doing after that, and you may reach our perma-ban list.

As of right now, this only apples to politics. We don't plan to extend this to other areas, but that will change as needed.

Former President Donald Trump's campaign and businesses have provided "Significant financial benefits" to nine of the witnesses in his criminal cases, ProPublica reported Monday morning - shrugging off a threatening cease-and-desist letter sent by Trump's attorney.

The detailed report by ProPublica's Robert Faturechi, Justin Elliott, and Alex Mierjeski describes how nine individuals who have been named as witnesses received benefits that included "Large raises from his campaign, severance packages, new jobs, and a grant of shares and cash from Trump's media company" from Trump's various campaign committees and businesses.

These benefits "Often came at delicate moments in the legal proceedings against Trump," said the report, highlighting one example of Trump aide Dan Scavino, who was given a "Plum position on the board of Trump's social media company, for example, got the seat after he was subpoenaed but before he testified." Other well-known names in Trump's circle mentioned in the article include campaign adviser Boris Epshteyn, campaign head Susie Wiles, lawyer Evan Corcoran, and former Trump Org CFO Allen Weisselberg.

Salary increases, bonuses, promotions, and other benefits, can be evidence of witness tampering, the ProPublica article explained, if prosecutors can show that these employment changes occurred separate from normal business operations and the "Perks or punishments were intended to influence testimony." Even if no new charges are brought against the former president who is now a convicted felon, the details of these benefits could be used by prosecutors in Trump's still-pending cases to "Undermine the credibility" of these witnesses if the defense calls them to provide testimony helpful to Trump.

The Trump Org and various campaign entities have, of course, denied that any wrongdoing took place, and denied that Trump had knowledge or direct involvement in compensation issues.

One former aide compared working for the Trump Organization, his large company, to "a small family business" where every employee "In some sense reports to Mr. Trump." Former aides have said Trump demands unwavering loyalty from subordinates, even when their duties require independence Trump's former campaign manager and former campaign adviser were convicted on federal witness tampering charges in 2018 and 2019.

Trump posted on social media that he had read about a Georgia politician who "Will be testifying before the Fulton County Grand Jury. He shouldn't." One witness has said publicly that, when he quit working for Trump in the midst of the classified documents criminal investigation, he was offered golf tournament tickets, a lawyer paid for by Trump and a new job that would have come with a raise.

As this community continues to grow, we are noticing periods of time that moderation isn't as responsive, due to most of the moderators being asleep at that time. If you want to help us, and live in Asia/Asia Pacific/Australia/New Zealand area, please comment here that you're interested, why you think you'd be a good fit for the team, and anything you'd change if you were picked.
