They also cut the fabric multiple layers high with a giant stamping tool. The more layers of fabric they cut at once the more variance there is between top layer and bottom layer but the cheaper the process is. Higher quality cheap brands will advertise that they only cut x amount vs what the competitors cut so they have less variation.

Not sure how lemmy compares but it isn't unusual for user generated content online to follow a 1:9:90 distribution of posters, commenters, and lurkers. Just look a the number of upvotes a post gets compared to the number of comments it has and you can tell that most people who vote dont also comment.

I rarely comment because internet discussions tend towards arguments. I usually just upvote comments that already say what I was going to comment anyways.

Its mostly just increased reporting. Tech companies overhired when when they were doing well during lockdowns and are laying people off now that the increased revenue didn't hold indefinitely.

https://layoffs.fyi/ has been tracking layoffs in the tech sector since covid and the charts show how much more layoffs there were in 2023 (particularly January and February). It seems like the biggest change is that now every time there is a layoff it gets more news coverage.

About 3 years ago I played a CoD during the free weekend and had mostly the same experience as you. What I found to be the cause of the problems is that the starter guns have a much higher time to kill than the unlocked and modded guns that the rest of the players were using. Players know to prefire based on the map at the top-left. The game basically has a built in radar hack. You can camp a corner, aim at the opening, and watch the map to know when to prefire. Players who started playing when the game launched and are still playing have memorized the spawn locations and know where to aim to catch fresh respawns.

I blocked the notification with uBlock and just pretend nobody ever reads or comments on my comments. You can say whatever you want if nobody is around to hear it.

Not having a global karma score that is require to post in different subreddits helps too.

For cases where injury was sustained there is legal doctrine know as the Eggshell skull rule

The rule states that, in a tort case, the unexpected frailty of the injured person is not a valid defense to the seriousness of any injury caused to them.

I keep seeing people saying that the LTT video came out first when all I can find supports that Madison's tweet came out first. Its likely LTT made and released the video before they were aware of the tweet.

The timestamps I can see (in my local time of -7)
Madison's tweet 11:09 PM · Aug 15, 2023

LTT video 2023-08-16 / 03:33:44

Madison's tweet came out 4 hours and 24 minutes before the video was published.

Additionally the Verge article states a similar timeline.

Linus Tech Tips posted its latest video at approximately 7AM ET. However, last night, at approximately 2AM ET, a former employee, Madison Reeve, posted a thread on X

When MKBHD broke the samsung galaxy fold phone he was reviewing and had to get a replacement from samsung to finish his review then didnt mention it in his review told me where his priorities lie. He values relationships with manufactures over providing information to consumers. Only after several reviewers posted about having broken the phone by removing a protective screen did he make a video about it where his fans praised him for for how honest he was. Here is the follow up video where he explains how he broke the phone and didn't mention it in his review https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vtqtyyGZvXM

He was in a video by JerryRigEverything about content creators and if they have ever damage their phones and I couldn't help but think about the review phone he broke when he says that he hasn't broken a phone in the last 5 years. He was probably talking about just personal phones but I thought it was funny especially when the video has the line "I wonder if any of my friends here on Youtube have ever broken a phone and just not told anyone about it." in the intro https://youtu.be/3oGJP9FMWAU?t=316

To add context this isn't a hypothetical situation. In New York Two cops Eddie Martins and Richard Hall raped an 18 year old woman they had arrested for marijuana possession. They detained a group of teens, and let all of them go except for the woman who they then handcuffed and raped in the back of their police van. They then dropped her off in another location. She went to a hospital where a rape kit found semen matching the DNA of detectives Eddie Martins and Richard Hall. Both officers claimed that they did have sex with her, but it was consensual. Because it wasn't specifically illegal for police to have sex with someone they detained they were able to accept a plea deal for taking bribes and official misconduct where they got 5 years probation with no jail time. Because of this case New York unanimously passed a new law (SB S7708) making it so that a person “under arrest, detention or otherwise in actual custody” cannot consent to sex. In any other state that doesn't have a similar law it is essentially legal (as in it is not specifically illegal) for police to rape someone they arrested.

I didn't understand the hate Sucker Punch got until I found out that the theatrical release was cut down to a PG-13 movie. To make it PG-13 they had to cut the core themes from the movie since they were not PG-13 appropriate.

I had only watched the unrated directors cut and never saw the theatrical version so any time I talked about this movie people had no idea what I was talking about. The story and supporting scenes were completely gutted and that's why people say the movie didn't have a good story - it was removed.

I have been making stews lately. Takes a while to cook, but most of that time is inactive. About 20 minutes to get it started and an additional 15 minutes as it cooks. Makes a lot of food. Ingredients are simple and can be adjusted to your preference and for what is available for you. I use beef for the meat. Toss it in flour and sear it olive oil to get a good char. Take the meat out add onion and use the water that sweats from the onion to loosen the chard on the bottom of the pan from the beef. Add Garlic then tomato paste, rosemary thyme and pepper. I use better than bullion for the broth. Return the meat to the pot and let that cook at a low simmer for an hour or two. Then I add potatoes, carrots, peas, and corn. Each vegetable has its own cook time so I add them in stages. Potatoes take 40 minutes so I add them first, wait 10 minutes then add carrrots (needs 30 mintes), wait 15 minutes then add the peas and corn. 15 more minutes and it is done. Add salt to taste but that will depend on how salty your broth is and how salty you like your food. I often do need to add any salt beyond what is in the better than bullion beef broth.

I use 1-1.5lb of beef, 1.5lb potato, 1lb carrots. 1 onion, 12oz corn 12oz peas so it makes a lot of food. The quantities are just based on package sizes that are readily available. Reheats in a microwave in 1-2 minutes depending on potion size.

The largest cost is the beef but that can be swapped for another meat or for vegetarian options try a lentil stew. The rest of the bulk comes from vegetables that are very cheap.

The recipe is based on an older version of the Chunky Beef Stew recipe from budget bytes. https://www.budgetbytes.com/slow-cooker-rosemary-garlic-beef-stew-slow-cooker/
