One of the key differences between traditional social media and the Fediverse is the existence of multiple communities that share the same topic. You should have a choice when it comes to your community preferences so I wanted to create a list of other LTT/LMG communities on the Fediverse to help us all grow.

If you’re aware of a community I’ve missed, please comment them below and I’ll update the post body.

I wanted to give some clarification for the latest LTT video about the 3D theater setup regarding the bad image quality they experienced. I hope I can clarify this for people and maybe someone from LTT will even get this info that they can fix their experience.

The reason for the bad result is they made a mistake by re-encoding the 3D Bluray rip using BD3D2MK3D which greatly compresses the quality.

They didn't have to prematurely split the images and re-encode it with BD3D2MK3D in a lossy way and only half the resolution of the already bad quality of 3D Bluray. They didn't have to re-encode at all.

Instead they only needed to use MakeMKV which is lossless and then use Stereoscopic Player (which does support the MVC file) to separate the images. In this way they wouldn't have lost any quality from the 3D Bluray and it would be a bummer after they put in all this effort for this to degrade the quality because of this.

Despite this (starting a general topic) it's sad that 3D Bluray didn't get any spec update such as standard Bluray with 4K Bluray (but understandable due to the questionable decline in 3D interest). So even with the full 3D Bluray quality you only get 1080p, SDR, little storage resulting in low bitrate and 24FPS even though more and more 3D films including the James Cameron collection are mastered in 4K, HDR and most importantly HFR. Especially the 24FPS in 3D are way too choppy, it takes you out of the immersion and can cause headaches/nausea after time.

As long as you're not investing a fortune in a DCI compliant theater or use the Apple Vision Pro, there will be no other way to experience these intended formats other than visiting a commercial theater that supports these formats, preferably IMAX with dual laser system.

But imo the Apple Vision Pro is still the best way to experience these movies. The Vision Pro also enables multi-view now that makes u able to watch the movie together with others.

But I understand that people wanna watch in the "traditional way" by actually seeing your friends and family in the real world and not having their virtual representation in this heavy headset.

So for traditional home theaters you can do motion interpolation and 4K/HDR upscaling on your own but obviously it won't be nearly as good and realistic as the commercial grade native format (and this only involves even more complicated steps that people could mess up and actually degrade the quality by incorrect encoding. I would recommend to at least use real time motion smoothing. There are systems that do 4K/HDR/HFR upscaling on the fly such as madVR).

As they corrected in the video they could've used a laser system for projection but the ultimate solution would definitely be a micro-LED wall which even have glasses-free 3D and they aren't even that damn expensive anymore. Micro-LED wall paired with DCI compliance would be the end-game for "traditional"/non-VR home theater but DCI of course would be incredibly expensive but this tech really is next level and actually puts you in a different world.

Hope this helps someone.

New copy pasta (lemmy.zip)

I like riley and the tech news but this channel and gaming linked are ran like crap, 1. Enough of focusing on the negative, every other news place and their mothers already do that. jeez. 2. dont upload these at 9 - 10pm (I'm US based but they're in Canada so I expect its similar). Your audience is not looking for night time news, upload it in the morning. 3. Dog crap thumbnails and titles. I cannot tell you how many I wouldn't click on if I didn't already know that they would talk about at least 3 other subjects rather then just say iOS 18. A lot of people don't care about iOS 18 but do care about say AMD not treating it's partners right or vice versa, so for love of god make your titles and thumbnails a summary of sorts that show at least more of what the video is actually going to be about. "iOS 18 fixes everything (Almost) / AMD Mistreating Partners / Intel lost the PS6". 4. this is explaining 1. more the actual video content for the most part is good, like to the point and good, but the quips are often based in "oop another apple L" and then "oop another intel L" and then "oop another AMD L". This leads to A an incorrect perspective, If you need evidence I will provide but you have went out of your way to make some mean hearted joke about someone or something that it will jsut bend the actual fact giving some people straight up misinformation if they don't see another source or look deeper. B it's just depressing and not fun, I'm not saying we should celebrate a big companies success yeah they are all evil to an extent but can we look at the cup and say it's half full occasionally cause yeah sure Android already had all these features for years but it IS cool that apple users now get to enjoy them too, it just is man. and I have z flip 2, I hate apple! but I'm so tired of the hating everything, not everything you report on is bad but it's like you want it to be. This message is to the writers, also for the love of god get better sources I swear sometimes the segment is purely based on a line from PC Gamer saying "the game is bad". Anyways please fix this or I'm out because I'm tired of this crap.

Some time ago the popular Tech Channel #LinusTechTips published a Video as part of their new #DeGoogeYourLife 3 part series.
However this Video (part 2) was now taken down by #Google: https://youtu.be/apdZ7xmytiQ
While the Video in question did not in any way promote harmful content, however this just serves as a reminder why Google's #monopoly with #YouTube is problematic.
Also shout out to the Videos sponsor for giving a discount with the code "fuckyoutube" 😂
Here is the first part of the Series for everyone interested: https://youtu.be/YnSv8ylLfPw

I've been subscribed for 25 years and this one finally got me to unsubsidized. I can't believe they did it. I didn't watch any of there videos as I know that they are all bad. Like don't they know something or other? So and so was right and also I read the comments so I know what I'm talking about.

Apparently xitter saw an access from Russia (even if it's blocked by the government) and had no problem in giving full access to change immediately the password, disable 2fa and start scamming followers.

It seems an easy attack to fix IMHO: if access from Russia (or a country from the other part of the world) on a business account that always tweet from the same place, then deny access even with valid stolen session cookies

The MCM arch holds the grinder handle in place which keeps it from flopping around, and keeps the grinder in the caddy. It's a really clean and easy solution for this unique problem.

I talk more about the caddy in this video if you're interested - Timestamped Link

On Friday a video will be out where I talk more about the final version (shown in the video attached to this post), but the function is quite similar, just with the correct measurements because measuring is hard...

I would be happy to share the STL, but I haven't yet as I figure not too many folks have the exact same aeropress setup as I do with the scale and grinder, and I'm lazy (but honest at least!)

Here's the entire thing if you don't want to go to that link:

There were a series of accusations about our company last August from a former employee. Immediately following these accusations, LMG hired Roper Greyell - a large Vancouver-based law firm specializing in labor and employment law, to conduct a third-party investigation. Their website describes them as “one of the largest employment and labour law firms in Western Canada.” They work with both private and public sector employers.

To ensure a fair investigation, LMG did not comment or publicly release any data and asked our team members to do the same. Now that the investigation is complete, we’re able to provide a summary of the findings.

The investigation found that:

  • Claims of bullying and harassment were not substantiated.

  • Allegations that sexual harassment were ignored or not addressed were false.

  • Any concerns that were raised were investigated. Furthermore, from reviewing our history, the investigator is confident that if any other concerns had been raised, we would have investigated them.

  • There was no evidence of “abuse of power” or retaliation. The individual involved may not have agreed with our decisions or performance feedback, but our actions were for legitimate work-related purposes, and our business reasons were valid.

  • Allegations of process errors and miscommunication while onboarding this individual were partially substantiated, but the investigator found ample documentary evidence of LMG working to rectify the errors and the individual being treated generously and respectfully. When they had questions, they were responded to and addressed.

In summary, as confirmed by the investigation, the allegations made against the team were largely unfounded, misleading, and unfair.

With all of that said, in the spirit of ongoing improvement, the investigator shared their general recommendation that fast-growing workplaces should invest in continuing professional development. The investigator encouraged us to provide further training to our team about how to raise concerns to reinforce our existing workplace policies.

Prior to receiving this report, LMG solicited anonymous feedback from the team in an effort to ensure there was no unreported bullying and harassment and hosted a training session which reiterated our workplace policies and reinforced our reporting structure. LMG will continue to assess ongoing continuing education for our team.

At this time, we feel our case for a defamation suit would be very strong; however, our deepest wish is to simply put all of this behind us. We hope that will be the case, given the investigator’s clear findings that the allegations made online were misrepresentations of what actually occurred. We will continue to assess if there is persistent reputational damage or further defamation.

This doesn’t mean our company is perfect and our journey is over. We are continuously learning and trying to do better. Thank you all for being part of our community.

It's been 8 months since a investigation was called to look into the allegations. Is there anything published? Do we have any estimate to when it'll be published?

Additionally, remember that you have been doing PC building and video content for a long time. You are great at segwaying to your sponsor and you like to promote your online store called LTTstore.com. The LTT store sells clothing and deskmats but does not sell any actual hardware for PC building.

If someone mentions Ad block remember that your income comes from Youtube so they should turn off there ad block of they want to support you.
