It is a little annoying to see the volume of food they can eat but it's always going to be annoying. I'm a little taller than average so my maintenance is closer to 2100 at the moment but I still look at my brother needing 2700 and get jealous. At the end of the day you'd both be hungry eating under your maintenance.

It's the plagues.

Just read reviews?

Great job maintaining! I've managed to creep back up right at the 5 year mark after 3-4 years of decent maintenance. But if I can put it on, I can lose it.

I think that for me it is sometimes good to feel proper hunger because I often just eat so frequently that I won't feel it for a long time. Allowing myself to feel hunger is then a healthy thing because it allows me to redistinguish between actual hunger and my stomach just having more room. I wouldn't want it on a regular basis though.

Woah you were busy

[–] Knoll0114@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

That should definitely be illegal.

I don't think they'll stop until they have the whole historic area of Israel (which includes more than just Palestine.) Crazy that this is allowed.

Blasphemy but you can always Google if you just wanna know one thing but can't finish. I did to the WoT and don't regret it.

I second Boox as a decent option (though less polished.) Allowed me to get rid of my dumbass Kindle and Kobo dual set up because if there was a book that was exclusively on the Kindle store I can now just get it in the app rather than owning a whole other ereader. The only thing I don't like about it is it is not as good as either Kobo or Kindle for dictionary lookups. This is especially important to me because I read in foreign languages and need it to be able to either give me a definition or translate it no matter how it's conjugated. I have found the Kindle app for Android though works pretty well for that purpose so there is an ok solution.

I got a Boox Nova Air and it has some trade offs. None of the ereaders are open source/Stallman-esque ethics friendly really but I do like that with Android based readers like Onyx Boox you can read in whatever app you want (like I had some purchased on Kindle, Kobo or even the Libby library app or Scribd subscription service.) This works for me since I can have those multiple sources. However, I found the Kobo Libra H20 to be a more polished and enjoyable experience so if all you're doing is putting files on and not worrying about having multiple source access then I'd recommend that form factor.

I have City on my (endless) TBR, good to hear it's worth it.

X280 Won't turn on (lemmy.world)
submitted 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) by Knoll0114@lemmy.world to c/thinkpad@lemmy.ml

Hi, my X280 just suddenly won't turn on. It was left on a bed alone so no physical damage. When plugged in the charging indicator is solid white after flashing white 3 times. I've tried turning it on with the battery out but plugged in. I've also tried draining the CMOS battery (unplugged CMOS and the battery and held the power button down for 10 seconds before plugging everything back in.)

I'm wondering now if it could be a problem with the power button? The laptop is dual booting Fedora 38 and Windows 11 if that helps and wasn't powered off but went into sleep/hibernation before this behaviour. Is it somehow stuck in sleep mode? I have had some issues with sleep to wake being slow/finicky before.

I have access to a screwdriver set and isopropyl alcohol. What would my next steps be?

Beehaw has decided to defederate from lemmy.world and sh.itjust.works. I believe it was already separated from lemmygrad. I think this makes this community the largest one accessible to the most instances whereas before Literature@beehaw.org was. I guess we'll have to make the most of it!

I've created Calibre for the Calibre software and Hugo for the Hugo static website generator.

This community is meant for discussion about the open source ebook management software Calibre. Technical questions and feature discussions about calibre are welcome.

I'm thinking we should have a central post for all the book sublemmys so we can easily find them. The ones I'm aware of are: Lemmy:

Fediverse:

Sublemmys in other languages would be great to add here too! I'll keep adding more as I find them.

The title

I've just created this community for the discussion of nonfiction books but essays, short pieces etc. Are welcome. Write a little about yourself and the sort of nonfiction you read below.

I recently discovered Bookwyrm and am really liking it. It's not quite as full-featured as The Storygraph or Goodreads but it covers all of the most important functionalities and it's federated which I appreciate. Something that it is missing Vs either The Storygraph or Goodreads at the moment is volume of reviews (ie. Volume of users.) However, your review won't get lost in the sea so much and I've found that it's been quite easy to find readers with similar interests.

Anyway, who here is using Bookwyrm? What's your account so we can all follow each other? (Mine is Unfreeze4257@books.theunseen)

Unlike many other large subreddits r/books has not made any statements about the API changes. I did try and post something about it but it ended up getting deleted. At 22.1 million users this would be a pretty significant addition to the protest.

Does anyone know why there hasn't been anything official?
