My friend in Australia is a doctor studying psychiatry and he kept asking me what certain worlds meant and half the time I had no idea what they were or how to explain them lol.

Very random. Here's a wiki list but I remember there were some others too

Dermatozoenwahn

Entgleisen

Gedankenlautwerden

Mitgehen

It's kind of interesting to see the long lasting effect of Germans pioneering the medical field for a very brief time in history.

As a German who has been living and working overseas (mainly Australia) for over 5 years, coming back to Germany to visit is such a huge culture shock now. It's so much less developed compared to 20 or 30 years ago (or at the very least it stagnated), everything is slow and the economy depressing.

Even things that are meant to be easily done online like tax returns are a huge pain. You need to verify yourself by scanning your ID or getting a physical letter with a code sent to you. It's ridiculous. In Australia you simply log in into your myGov account and handle everything from visa applications, tax returns, health records, welfare payments, child support etc all on one website. It's super quick and easy.

And unlike Germany, government lingo is easy to understand and accessible. I feel like Germany is purposely trying to keep things as complex as possible to the point where many people have to hire an accountant for tax purposes

As someone who's lived in apartments since birth:

A lot of apartments in Europe have a communal garden, or you can simply rent a plot of garden nearby for larger projects, or use your balcony for small things like herbs.

Idk what you mean with plumbing windows/basement second levels but there would be an underground garage where you can charge your EV

You also don't rely as much on solar panels because apartments are already so much more energy efficient. They are cooler in summer and warmer in winter

As a German living in Australia I can ensure you, smoking is still just as prevalent, it's just people here being addicted to vapes instead of traditional cigarettes.

Disposable vapes are also dangerously cheap (2000 puff vapes are equivalent to about 10 packs of cigarettes, while only costing about $20) and despite efforts to ban them, easily available at any TSG/Ezymart without age verification.

Idk why Japan is being credited for being the logical one when they simply copied the Chinese system/characters

Chinese weekdays make a lot more sense as well

I understand they want to push hardware sales, but surely they are also interested in gaining more subscribers?

Because as much of a die-hard Android user I am, I'm actually still impressed with AppleTV+ as a steaming platform and the consistent quality of its shows.

But not having a dedicated app/dealing with buffering/not being able to download feels like I'm back in 2005

This is pretty common knowledge these days.

Men are like volcanoes. They can be quiet for decades before suddenly erupting their accumulated suppressed feelings

As a woman, the secret is the unload your baggage to friends one at a time as to not overwhelm them.

Having a crappy day? Talk about it.

Relationship issues? Talk about it.

Feeling stuck in your career? Talk about it

But don't do it all at once, otherwise people will feel like you're misusing them as free therapy, and takes away from the natural give and take between friends/partners.

Memes nowadays: edgy, post-ironic nihilism that portrays the current state of society and its flaws

Memes then: simple and lighthearted fun

Any topics outside of memes, IT and politics are nearly non-existent.

This place is heavily skewed towards a specific niche of mostly males that are chronically online
