I am a fan of a UBI (Universal Basic Income) but these limited CBI (Conditional Basic Income) trials are not really comparable to a long-term implementation of either version.

Taking a specific number of people and giving them cash is certainly going to improve their lives. Giving cash to everyone in a city or state, including new arrival, is asking for local inflation and a population explosion. If the area is empty and has abundant natural resources that can be converted into jobs it will probably work out, at least for a while. If it is a major city with most of the resources and land already in use, and there is not much demand for workers, then the program's budget is likely to be overrun fairly quickly.

This is not a UBI Universal Basic Income; this is a CBI Conditional Basic Income. The conditions are currently being selected and being homeless.

Also this program basically already exists. It is just TANF selected for homelessness instead low-income families with children.

Edit: Universal not Unconditional

This is definitely funny, but don't let the conspiracy theory guys see it.

There is little to celebrate here.

Victim still got charged with a felony after spending 5 months incarcerated waiting for trial, and has to wait another month in jail to find out if the judge will overturn his final charge.

Self-described "Goon" still walking around on the streets getting paid for harassing and assaulting strangers. As a bonus, nearly doubled subscribers.

This case is exactly why DA's level stack multiple felonies in these cases.

Jury: Well this is clearly self-defense, but he also probably pushed it too far so we don't think he is innocent. Better just give him one felony.

For those that don't know, the American courts have interpreted the constitutional "right to bear arms" as void for felons. This guy who was just acknowledged to have used his firearm in self-defense, is no longer allowed to own a firearm for his own protection.

This article could probably use some context as it is pretty misleading currently.

Coffee City is about 25 miles from Tyler, a city of about 100,000 people. You can't buy liquor in Tyler stores, only beer and wine. Until relatively recently, there wasn't even liquor sold in bars in Tyler. For the last 40 to 50 years, Coffee City has been the main place to go for liquor. Coffee City is basically two liquor stores on the far end of a mile long bridge. The article mentions a couple other stores in town, but I didn't notice them last time I was there.

I am not a fan of the excessive Police State that the US has become. Furthermore, it is very clear that there is some kind of corruption is going on in the Coffee City police force itself where they are hiring problem cops.

That said, these cops aren't there to police Coffee City residents. They are there to catch the constant stream of drunk drivers coming in from Tyler. I don't have the numbers but I wouldn't be surprised if 95% of their income is from DWIs given to people crossing the bridge.

In this particular case, discharging all those officers is probably a significant public danger. People are probably going to end up dying over this if the county or state don't send officers to cover the bridge area.

I can't tell you how happy I am to see someone point this out here.

As if the ridiculous set of laws we have weren't bloated enough already, the nearly bottomless stack of court cases that modify them all and stack on each other make it impossible to have a fair trial.

You seem to have missed the real lesson. Google is not a good company. They will screw you if they can. Avoid them when possible.

More like Google had the better product a decade ago. It has pretty well been crap that was just being defaulted to for most of the last decade. Which is exactly why it is ripe for an antitrust claim.

Can we please keep anything I don't like or agree with it off of lemmy?

That includes: boiled eggs, boiled spinach, and anyone with a number in their user name.

Thank you everyone!

While this is encouraging, I wonder how many users have multiple active accounts, like I do.

What is more mildly infuriating than reading a post complaining about someone else complaining? Adding another level!

Edit: Thanks for replying to my little joke everyone. It has been fun reading the responses. Though it seems like we have a few people that still only read and respond to the title.

Someone should definitely come up with a good rage bait title with happy rainbow stuff in the body.

I have been using duckduckgo.com for the last few years. I definitely find it preferable to google.

That said, when I first switched over I would occasionally have a hard time finding something and swap back to google to let their algorithm that was tailored to me help out.

Fair Warning: Kong was a meat bird and this story reflects that.

This was Kong da Roo getting his wattles rubbed. He was quite the little hustler and would often meet me at the steps to the front porch hoping for snacks and love.

Out of my first batch of ten chickens, four were Cornish X and they were the friendliest of the bunch. It was probably my fault since I felt bad that these guys wouldn't have as long of lives as the other six.

He was free ranged and stomped around the yard like King Kong, while chasing bugs and his ladies. He couldn't have cared less about veggie scraps but he loved crickets from the local bait shop. He was also my first rooster and even gave me a few morning crows before it was his time.

I wish I could have kept him longer but he ended up hurting his leg jumping off the coop ramp. After that he went the way of most Cornish Crosses and kept getting fatter until he couldn't walk at all.

Him and his three ladies made for an excellent first meat bird experience and will be remembered for a long time.

Also, in case your curious, he made for a good barbecue dinner for the family. Not necessarily better than what you get from the store, but it was still nice to know that he lived a longer and fuller life than any store bought bird.

I have tons of things showing up in my feed from communities that I am not subscribed to.

Is there a way to set it only to subscribed communities or do I have to block any community that I am not interested in?

Also, are there any other side-effects from blocking a community besides it not showing up in my feed?
