I'm using the Niri window manager

Context: Windows on Niri doesn't span across monitors, and the dev doesn't seem very interested in adding this feature (https://github.com/YaLTeR/niri/issues/2309)

I am trying to setup Flameshot on Niri. While Flameshot's window spawns with the full 2-monitor dimensions, it can only appear on one screen due to the limitation of Niri. I currently have a temporary-solution script where I position the window differently based on which monitor my cursor is on.

Is there a way I can split the Flameshot window in 2 so it can appear on both screens? I don't know if there exists some kiosk compositors like cage that does this.

The tone 2 and 5 difference is subtle. 5 goes not as high as 2. Most of the time people pronounce them lazily but I can figure it out from the context.

Kind of ironic that we named the western countries with nice words and got invaded instead

I've finished the 2 seasons of Panty & Stocking. I like Stocking.

What would localhost in IPoAC be?

Explanation/Alt text: The tuxedo Winnie the Pooh meme showing more and more abstract representation of "home".

  1. The literal word "Home"
  2. 127.0.0.1, the IP address of your current device
  3. ~/, the Unix home directory
  4. A Nintendo Switch RCM clip, which is used to short pin 1 and 10 of the Joycon railing in order to enter recovery mode (RCM) for softmodding. The pin 1 and 10 combination is known as the "hardware home button"

All Gentoo users remember the pain of compiling QtWebEngine ;)

I used to run Gentoo on my old computer. Installing it was quite the experience. That was where I learnt about most of how Linux works thanks to the wiki.

I heard compiling your own packages with use flags can improve performance, but honestly it was not worth it for the compile time.

When I switched to my new PC, the Nvidia GPU doesn't work and I could not figure out why. I also don't have the time at that moment so I installed Endeavour instead, which I'm still using.

Not exactly sense, but my brain's processing. I can easily pick out the melody of only 1 instrument in music. It's like Fourier transform but on instrument level.

I'm in my 4th undergrad year of majoring CS, and I have never had to use Windows once.

All courses that require their special programs have Linux versions or are cross-platform due to them using languages like Java, like LogicSim, RISC-V, Ocaml, SQL Workbench, etc. Some courses even exclusively use Linux.

The closest thing I have to use Windows for would be .docx documents, but even that is handled by LibreOffice.

Of course, it depends on the institute.

My condolences to all the people who have lost their friends, family and home.

In case you don't know what happened, on 26/11 a bit before 3pm, a fire broke out in Wang Fuk Court, a housing estate located in Tai Po, New Territories, Hong Kong. The buildings were under renovation with a lot of nets and scaffolding surrounding them, so the fire spread very quickly, and burned from outside in. It burned for a WHOLE DAY, and at the time of me writing this, it's still burning.

There are at least 83 dead, 77 injuries and 200+ people still missing. All these people were innocent, and I am getting secondhand sadness from all the people still alive.

Now onto the mad part (this post is a mess). Capitalism screws us all over again. According to investigations, the construction company used some very flammable materials for a cheaper cost in the renovation, the net may not be up to standard, and (speculation) the fire is probably started by some dumb construction worker's cigarette butt. Bro's guilt must be off the roof right now.

The entire city is now supporting these residents. People are donating materials for all of them who have just lost their homes. The government is providing funds (actually, directly useful) to help them. At least some humanity can still be seen within us in the god awful system.
