The NDP does not support land value tax.

I'm an urbanist, I mostly cycle, and I'm probably more aware of pedestrians/cyclists than most.

When I lived in Montréal, I would drive at or below speed limits, and always stopped for pedestrians. Not that I live in Ontario, I'm regularly find myself driving 15-20kph over the limit, and regularly failing to identify, react, or stop for pedestrians in time. Same with my wife.

I don't buy that NA drivers are wholesale worse. We're drastically underestimating the impact of the built environment on how we drive.

That's some 3d chess

That's been modus operandi since ICE formation in 2003. It's certainly cranked up with the current administration, but it's not even the first surge push. Obama, for example, punted somewhere around 2.4 million.

Even before that, Ellis Island is a pretty famous detention centre, which itself was predated by Castle Clinton.

The chance was always non-zero. It's much higher than usual now.

Remeber these lines for foreign government detention: I wish to speak to the Canaidan embassy & I wish to be released to Canaidan custody. Some nations won't begin the process until you ask.

I get it, it was part of the fun for me.

But now I've got about 60 minutes per day to myself where I am not working or keeping a toddler from killing themselves. I'm using that time to play video games; not hoping I can stumble upon my delicious niche of death/power/trash metal that I'll listen to for 10-15 hours a week

I like Spotify for music discovery (I don't have the time to discover music on my own). $42 CAD per year for premium is worth it for me.

I'm already running an ARR stack, so there would only be about 10 minutes of effort if I ever change my mind and add Lidarr.

CBC already has Gem.

It's all Canadians, even my friends who specifically work in the mis/disinformation sphere are still susceptible, they're just more aware that they are susceptible.

I've got family that lives on an island. They've been holding onto twitter as the only way to get ferry updates.

I only recently found out, so have been switching the family (and slowly other islanders) to Nitter to follow that single account.

Ontarians, I need your help.

This week I was pulled over by the police for having a kid's seat on my e-bike. I was informed this is illegal in Ontario as Sec. 38 of the HTA doesn't allow anyone under the age of 16 to be on a power-assisted or motor assisted bicycle.

In 2021 the Moving Ontarians More Safely Act came out that separated power-assisted bicycles (like e-bikes) from motor assisted bicycles (like dirt bikes). This will finally allow child seats on e-bikes.

Please call your MPP to get this bill that passed and assented 3 years ago into law.

Details on the wording of the current and assented laws:

currently the Highway Traffic Act, section 38, states : "No person who is the owner or is in possession or control of a motor assisted bicycle or power-assisted bicycle shall permit a person who is under the age of 16 years to ride on, drive or operate the motor assisted bicycle or power-assisted bicycle on a highwau"

the Moving Ontarians More Safely Act, 2021, S.O. 2021, C. 26 - Bill 282 splits this into a few sections: "No person under the age of 14 years shall operate a power-assisted bicycle described in clause (a) of the definition" "No person under the age of 16 years shall operate a power-assisted bicycle described in clause (b) or (c)" and the new section 38.1: "No person under the age of 16 years shall ride on, drive or operate a motor assisted bicycle on a highway" From my perspective this will make e-bikes legal to have kids seats; and separate the class away from gas and electric dirt bikes.

Who's going to win?

I guess owl wait longer for the results.

Ikea HULTARP rods (lemmy.world)

Ikea's HULTARP rods and hooks can let you store things outside of the kitchen too.

I came up with this solution to stick long, but flat and lightweight, items on the wall in a bathroom.

Edit: note that Ikea has two sizes of HULTRAP hooks, so you might want to get a pack of each while figuring out what works best for your items.

Edit: please excuse the typo. I probably shouldn't use Sunforged as an editor.
