Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi is going to be filming soon. The upcoming Dawn of the Jedi, a prequel set earlier than any other movie in the franchise, is set to be directed by James Mangold from a screenplay co-written by Mangold and Beau Willimon (Andor, House of Cards). Mangold has been nominated for two Oscars, once as a screenwriter for 2017's Logan and once as a producer on his directorial effort Ford v. Ferrari, which was nominated for Best Picture. Other franchise efforts helmed by Mangold include The Wolverine and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.

During an interview promoting his new Timothée Chalamet-led Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown, Mangold revealed that once his work on the project - which comes with quite a bit of Oscar buzz - is over, he will be shooting the new Star Wars movie. Thus, the movie could potentially kick off production by the end of 2025.

This is the firmest update that has come from one of the upcoming Star Wars movies, other than the Disney+ series follow-up The Mandalorian & Grogu, in some time. While Lucasfilm recently recommitted to three movies from the franchise coming between 2026 and 2027 while at D23, the previously announced movies on the roster had not received any updates in some time.

In addition to Dawn of the Jedi, the upcoming titles that have previously been announced include the New Jedi Order movie, which is set to feature the return of Daisy Ridley as Rey. That project is also seeing some movement, as Ridley teased at a recent Collider event that "things are evolving." These two updates have come over the course of the same week, which would seem to indicate that the franchise is indeed preparing to make good on that D23 promise.

At the Lucasfilm Publishing: Star Wars: Stories From a Galaxy Far, Far Away panel at New York Comic Con, attendees learned about an all-new ongoing Star Wars comic series coming this March from Marvel Comics as part of their next phase of Star Wars comics, Star Wars: Jedi Knights from Marc Guggenheim and Madibek Musabekov.

"Marvel's first series focusing on the guardians of peace and justice in the galaxy will be brought to you by Emmy Award-winning screenwriter and acclaimed Star Wars comics writer Marc Guggenheim (Star Wars: Han Solo & Chewbacca, Star Wars: Yoda) and drawn by rising star artist Madibek Musabekov (Star Wars, X-Men Red). Thankfully, there are new projects on the horizon, including a new comic book series which sounds like it's set to be a sure-fire hit with fans.

It's set to bring fan-favourite characters back to the fray. Almost a decade since the Star Wars universe burst onto the comic book scene, some of its most well-loved series, such as Star Wars and Star Wars: Darth Vader, have come to an end.

With such important series finding their conclusions, fans have been speculating as to what they can expect next from Marvel Comics.

Luckily, the future is looking bright.

Last week saw Marvel Comics announce that an upcoming one-shot story was set to release in January 2025.

Titled Star Wars: A New Legacy, it will be the brainchild of many veteran writers and will also welcome back some much-loved characters such as Doctor Aphra and Beilert Valance.

“This is the monumental moment we’ve been waiting for: celebrating a decade of the re-union of Marvel Comics and Star Wars,” editor Mark Paniccia exclaimed.

The Mandalorian star Giancarlo Esposito has revealed that he thinks The Mandalorian & Grogu movie could just be the beginning of a new Star Wars trilogy.

"As in the MCU… Disney will figure out how to join all of these characters into one really great movie or TV show. That’s my sense of where it will go," Esposito said during an appearance at Dragon Con (via Culture Slate). "Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau have a new vision, continuing on with a Mandalorian movie… My sense is that it’s all going to converge at one point or another and we’re going to have another set of… [a] trilogy, or more, of films."

Esposito plays Moff Gideon in the Disney Plus series, but he hasn't been confirmed to return in the upcoming movie yet, since he died in season 3 (though, a surprise return can never be ruled out). Pedro Pascal is returning as titular bounty hunter Din Djarin on the big screen, though, with Sigourney Weaver joining him in an undisclosed role, while showrunner Favreau is in the director's chair.
