My look at the Framework 16 (techthreads.com.au)

FW16 Backpack (aussie.zone)

Just a heads up for anyone looking for a backpack that comfortably fits the FW16, especially with the GPU installed. I received my FW16 last week, have spent the week trying to find a backpack that fits. I had a few that came close, but all were either uncomfortably tight on the GPU or far too tight on the edges (i.e. not likely to offer much drop protection). I eventually landed on the STM Dux 30L. It is designed for up to a 17" laptop, which seems to work well for the FW16's deep GPU. Hopefully if someone else is in the same boat I've just saved them some research. It is an expensive backpack however. That part still makes me cry.

After the 3.03b Beta it looks like the release version is out. Good news for people with USB-PD charging issues. My own anecdotal experience: I have a few USB-PD chargers that refused to handshake with with my FW13s including one big Satechi unit. Since the update all are working happily.

Not just big and heavy. Old monitors were deep. Corners were a great place to dump all that wasted depth.

Tried a few options, really wanted a soft case. Can't speak highly enough for the think tank case, it fits just right and can accommodate the ethernet module too.

Loving the continuous transparency from Framework. Bought one for myself, when my father needed a new laptop got him onto the framework bandwagon. Now my wife has informed me to start budgeting - she wants one next year. Their behaviour to date is why I'm willing to get behind them & their products.

Couldn't be any happier. Now to put it through its paces over the coming days.

Threema

Where Signal is secure - Threema is private and secure (e2e encrypted, uses PFS but doesn't need your phone number for sign ups. You can be 100% anonymous should you wish)

The DM1.12 has become my favourite hiking and night walking light due to its flexibility. SST-20 4000K on both channels.

Also as a Reddit refugee I'm so happy to see this community here. Glad to see you here too /u/zak

Have one. My email address is firsname@firstnamesurname.com. I work in tech so it really seems to generate the right impression on my resume.

OK, my title may be a bit incendiary... But I've about had it with the recent constant parade of articles calling for "return to the office" as a cure for everything. It's almost like the Murdoch press has a vested interest? Anyway, we're in a cost of living crisis and we're calling to lump everyone with higher travel, and food costs all over again. So much for work life balance. If everyone does return to their offices will the press start running fluff articles about all the suburban cafes and restaurants that are suffering now that their local post-pandemic foot traffic is stuck back in the city?

Try removing the @ at the start of the name. I'm using a few android apps and Memmy on an iPad, haven't used the @ on any of them.

When I was 15, my dad purchased me a plaster saw (still have it) and handed me his drill.

Then told me to make it look neat, but "don't fuck up because your mother will kill us both".

I ran about 4 network points through the house.

Nothing like fear to produce a 100% perfect finish 😉

Hi all, a shout-out for assistance. I’m considering hosting a Lemmy instance (assuming I can pass the wife test on costs) and I’m looking for some guidance on specs.

Can anyone who’s currently hosting an instance (or who knows the inner workings of one) please reply with:

  • specs on the hardware / VPS that’s hosting your instance
  • how many users / posts that’s supporting
  • what the system load looks like with the above
  • if locally hosting, the type of bandwidth requirements you’re seeing

I previously posted this in the wrong community, and one of the responses asked how many users I'm expecting. To preemptively answer - I don't know. I'm just trying to get an idea of relative sizing.

Thank you!!
