Well for ads I use DNS66. It works pretty well and even blocks ads in most apps and games. It basically makes some free apps feel like the premium version

You're makin great points!

I was actually just hearing about this Karla Ortiz copyright case. Sounds like it's going to shine a big ol spotlight on how these systems work and how exactly they copy other people's work.

I wonder if it could make things so prohibitively expensive it's no longer worth investing in for most companies. At the very least, it hopefully gives artists/content creators some kind of legal protection

I mean, would there really be a difference in the data they're collecting on me, assuming that's your main concern?

I use an android phone which includes: android pay, youtube music/premium, maps and whatnot. Trying to keep my most sensitive data out of their hands honestly seems impossible at this point. I guess I just don't really see the benefit. That said, blocking ads would of course be significant enough of an issue for me to make a change. But, as of earlier in the week, everything still worked fine (I think)

Really tho, I barely use my PC to browse the web for fun anymore - just the odd gaming sesh and the Plex server for mom. It's kinda depressing to think about, tbh

Tom Barkin, president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond, said last week at a conference of business economists. “And that’s what you want: The solution to high prices is high prices.”

Economists can be so hard to take serious. I'm at the point where I'm starting to think of them as shamen or chiropractors. I'll defend almost every other profession but I struggle to say economists know what they're doing and are just doing their job.

Afaik, if you get 10 of anything (dentists, mechanics, lawyers, etc.), they'll mostly agree. But get 10 economists together and I truly wonder if one would say capitalism's great but we need less regulations to enable wealth to trickle down, while another suggests we invest in the working classto stimulate the economy, while another one says we need to bleed consumers dry until they're starving to foster innovation, and yet another suggests we open our borders to stimulate free trade, etc.

Thanks. That makes sense

Who would be Enron in this scenario? I'm thinking of openai or Nvidia but can't imagine they're at risk of much. The game seems far more rigged in favor of corpos than 20 yrs ago. Can't imagine how they could ever fall off at this point. Or, say a company like Netflix which I'm is using tons of algorithms...

Wait a min. Isn't AI now used as a catch all for any and all tech laymen don't understand? Do you specifically mean llamas are being overhyped (had to leave the autocorrect version of LLMs)?

Sorry, if I'm slow to the anti-AI party. It's been hard figuring out what's sensationalism, what's contrarianism, and what's legit nowadays (or maybe I'm just getting dumber :D)

Ah, gotcha. I totally agree in that case, but that also sounds like standard capitalism. lol. And that shit is going strong!

I'm just happy they learned what peer review means. I doubt even a third of Americans know what it means or its impact on their lives

We really are kinda fuckin dumb in the US. It's like we're equally deeply suspicious of our government but too dumb to understand how it works so we ends up with blind, ignorant cynicism

[-] Psychodelic@lemmy.world 9 points 15 hours ago

Uhh.. what?

Could you pretend I don't already know what you mean and explain what you're trying to communicate a bit?

[-] Psychodelic@lemmy.world 3 points 15 hours ago

What exactly is the AI scam?

Noice. I'm sure there's mirrors up already. Article says it'll eventually stop working tho. I know I have a few extensions that eventually were disabled daily and I had to enable them each time I started chrome

This might be what makes he leave for Firefox full time. A bummer indeed

Edit: ha, just saw what sub/community this is. I use FF but only for browsing... privately ;]
