Best idea I’ve seen so far is to comply - and let the nsfw posts just keep on coming. Show the advertisers how their ads are being shown next to nsfw, and see how that goes.

Totally depends on the challenge of the project - and it follows a bell curve. Too easy and it’s annoying, too difficult (or takes too long) and it’s fucking aggravating. But those rare Goldilocks projects that are a challenge but shit just clicks along? Chefs kiss.

My jaw dropped when I saw these lol.

It places the post into moderator-approval limbo. The post will then be approved in a timely fashion, once the mod on duty has had a chance to review it. The current estimated wait time for mod review and approval of the post in question is 2-3 weeks, but sometimes as much as 500. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

FYI. If you uncheck “Show read posts” from your profile settings, it also hides posts you’ve made from your account profile.

“I see you’re going on a looong journey! I see you’re going…. to Rome!

“But I am in Rome!”

“Do I lie?”

It’s gotta start somewhere though. It makes sense that as refugees flock over they’ll gravitate towards the largest instance, because the expectation is that’s where the usage is and they don’t yet grok how the Fediverse works. As they settle in, I’d expect a number of them to spread out a bit. Once we can migrate accounts I’d expect the load to be distributed even better.

And the phone number matching, well that can easily be spoofed. Can never be too careful, gotta follow the process.

Edit/Update: Searching by !community@instance fails, searching by the full url works.

Original post: So if my understanding is correct, a Lemmy instance won’t be aware of a community on another instance until the first time it is searched from your home instance.

If that understanding is correct, then the process does not seem to be working from sh.itjust.works.

Examples:

!3d_printing@forum.rhombik.com

!makerstuff@lemmy.world

!3dprinting@kbin.social

To try and get these communities visible from sh.itjust.works, I’m entering the search term as shown above into the Communties search field and smashing Search a few times. Normally there would be no results, but if you then search for just the community name it shows up as being connected - that’s no longer happening.

If I am misunderstanding or doing something wrong please let me know.

Edit: Searching for the entire url seems to work sometimes

Example: https://forum.rhombik.com/c/3d_printing - no joy

https://lemmy.world/c/makerstuff - worked!

https://kbin.social/m/3DPrinting - worked!

Edit: it appears the problem with !3d_printing@forum.rhombik.com is on their side - found a post where they were misconfigured and only federating with two other instances, and have ddos shields up.

And reading through them it looks like they took the bulk of the most judgmental reddit users. Good riddance, I say. Let them echo-chamber themselves into oblivion, we’ll build our own communities with blackjack and hookers!

[-] SickIcarus@sh.itjust.works 35 points 1 year ago

I agree. While they might have the larger communities (for now), they seem to have also absorbed the worst kind of judgmental pricks from Reddit. I was just thinking to myself earlier that Lemmy needs a way to block instances at the user level.

[-] SickIcarus@sh.itjust.works 14 points 1 year ago

Yeah, they’re still there for me even when sorting by top, unfortunately.

And I can’t use Jerboa because I’m on an iPad (which also makes the Mlem client problematic for now, they don’t have iPad scaling yet - but I can confirm that the problem does not occur in the app)

So that leaves me with the good ol’ webpage. /sad (lol)

That’s ok though! I understand it’s early days for Lemmy, and the fix is on the way! I can be patient to kick Reddit squarely in the nuts 😁

Has anybody figured out a workaround or fix for this?

The behavior I’m describing is when sorting by All > anything (top, hot, whatever) you get a feed. Great! I start scrolling and then the page jumps. Then jumps again. And again and again and again… it makes trying to actually preview or click anything a nightmare. Scrolling back to the top of the page shows why - a ton of new posts from across the Fediverse are up there! But I’m not sorting by New, so what gives?

I liked the domain. It makes me smile.

Models from printables.com

Both printed at 0.1 layer height on Bambu X1C. Roadrunner printed almost entirely with silk, Wile E Coyote printed mostly from matte, with the flames being silk, and the cart, ropes, fuse, and matchstick being wood.

r/trees comes to mind, if there was an actual arborist community that want r/trees, well they were fucked.

There was. They ended up with, I think, /r/marijuana_enthusiasts or something like that. It was quite funny to both sides, at least it was like 15 years ago.

[-] SickIcarus@sh.itjust.works 17 points 1 year ago

Wow, absolutely nobody in here gets what they’re doing and just wants to shit on “conservatives”. What they’re doing is what the other mods should also be doing - mod strike! Take down the barriers and let Reddit get overrun with bots, spam, and low-effort posts. If every sub did that instead of the weak-ass “dark for two days guise!” Reddit management would fold immediately.

With this two-days-dark plan, management thinks (correctly?) that they can just wait it out and they win. And they’re probably right. No competent strike ever gives a deadline and expects it to work, that’s absurd. The smarter subs have at least said “at least two days, then we’ll reassess” - that’s the better approach, keep it open-ended.

But the best approach is what /r/conservative seems to be doing, which is just put down their tools and walk the fuck away. Reddit management would have literally no response to that approach if it was the approach taken site-wide.

But whatever, keep shitting on the nazis.
