A fact that is often missed is also the game state. Be it saved games or a game in standby, I can just take it with me. Of course cloud save tries to do this but does not succeed fully and (worse) locks it behind a subscription.
So whether I move to another room or go on vacation, the switch is an easy decision to take with me, making it a win there.
Well at first you logged in and had no idea what to do. There were companies putting their proprietary frontend first (AOL, compuserve etc) and also game some starting help. Then bigger resources arose and (for me) the awareness the layer in between is unnecessary.
To be honest, all the stuff you said is still there but it's more niche than the corporate or big known offers.

There's a threshold that you pass and once you do there's no going back because the trust is lost forever and customers will go the next chance they get.

Of course it's often tried to get you to pay more by pushing you to subscribe pro features.
I was using Fedora because someone recommended it, and the rolling release model broke stuff for me multiple times so I am no longer using it (liking release models specifically based on Debian more).
The beatings will continue until morale improves!
