Title changed from the original article title because it was kind of clickbait-y.

My favourite part is the quote from the Conservation Officer:

He said people should not approach wild deer — nor put clothes on them.

"I didn't think I'd have to specify that one," he said. "Usually they're pretty quick."

I've seen that option but unfortunately not every NSFW post is NSFW because of nudity. Like some of the post in the Ukraine community are marked NSFW for war reasons.

This is the thing I'm happiest to see and I hope it helps Lemmy grow more. Being able to block the NSFW/porn instances is such a quality-of-life improvement. I've got nothing against porn, but it's a bad look if anyone can see your screen and every third post is nudity (even if it's blurred).

Wait, hold the fuck up. David Tennant is returning as another Doctor!? I haven't watched much since the Matt Smith era, but how the hell does that work with the DW lore?

Hey, that's my city! I'm sad to say that I'm not overly surprised. I don't know if it's an everywhere thing, but there's a vocal minority in Victoria that have a real stick up their ass about bike lanes.

You figured me out! I actually work for big candy and this Lemmy community is a long con to get everyone to eat more Skittles.

Shitty? Bruh, that looks fucking delicious. I'd demolish that whole pan.

I gave Lemmy a toque.

And then I was reminded of Bob and Doug, so...

Where did all the 90 minute movies go? I'm up for a longer movie if it can hold my attention (I have the same problem of dozing off) but 90 minutes was the sweet spot. Especially because you could make a late night (10pm or after) snap decision to watch a movie and still be in bed before midnight.

I knew someone who threw themselves off a bridge. Well, I knew their sibling. I was there when the call came through from the RCMP that they were missing. Then the call that the body was found. To say that it destroyed that family would be an understatement. I remember that my friend had to go down with their mother and identify what was left of the body. They were (understandably) never quite the same after that.

I don't know if I support expanding MAID to people with mental health issues or not. I have a feeling their sibling would've found a way to kill themselves one way or another. Maybe something more dignified would've been easier on the family? I don't know.

It's great to see all the changes they're making and that the devs are listening to community feedback. Looks like the community is also helping out a lot with all the shoutouts in that post!

HTTP API instead of Websocket

Super excited about this one. The live updates in the comments is kind of neat, but it makes trying to browse the All tab basically impossible.

I didn't see it mentioned - have they fixed the weird Hot/Active bug in this release?

Thanks @smorks for keeping this place running!

The way /c/Canada doesn’t turn into /r/Canada is by staying and engaging

I hate to be that guy who says "this", but...this. 100%. I came across one comment somewhere on Lemmy that said something like "how we build the communities now will dictate how they are in the future". It's kind of cheesy, but I want to believe that we can build something better and more positive than reddit is/was. There's too much negativity on the internet these days.

I'm enjoying it so far. I like that it's not a direct one-for-one clone of reddit (not that it was intended to be). It feels like a combination of older reddit (> 10 years ago, when it wasn't as active) and old school forums (like how older posts will bump if there's activity). It makes me want to be more active vs being a lurker.

I have no intention of going back to reddit. I've already deleted RIF from my phone. The 3PA thing was the last straw for me, but I felt like reddit had been going downhill for a while and I think I had been looking for an excuse to fuck off but couldn't quit cold turkey. Whatever good intentions that company might've started with, they're just a greedy corporation now. They haven't cared about their users for a while (which is interesting because their users are what create their content. Reddit itself doesn't create anything).
