I'll suggest Lemmesee as a word play on Let Me See and Lemmy. Some alternate possibilities regarding styling/spelling: LemmeSee, Lemmysee, LemmySee, LemmySy

Will definitely keep an eye out on the icon contest.

Try Obtainium, helps if an app isn't on F-Droid or Google Play Store.

My bad, didn't read the part you didn't get it from Steam but some other place. Then I understand wanting to stick with the DRM-free version for sure. Have fun with it!

Starfield's considered a separate show, being right after the Xbox Games Showcase.

I think it speaks to accepting the reality of where they are with regards to hardware sales. Agreed, but I wouldn't say the Xbox situation is as hopeless as he paints it out to be if they got XGS games to show for it. Especially with Sony's exclusivity deals (which luckily are far less than before, looking at Street Fighter 6 for example). Phil's philosophy of getting games on any platform (despite starting to Xbox/PC lock Bethesda games) definitely shows with third party developers nowadays.

Sony set the bar low this time around, so I think it'll be good. Last showcase with the Hi-Fi Rush shadow drop was a good format for them - quick, content-filled. If they stick with that type of format, I'm a happy guy.

Hopefully an announcement of a global rollout of Game Pass Friends and Family too. 👀

I got to ask: what's your secret on still clearing the backlog since that time? I've gotten mine since June '22 if I remember correctly, and my backlog-beating definitely got reduced.

+rep for Spelunky and Rogue Legacy 2! Really loved my short play session with RL2 when trying several games out for my backlog list, but haven't gotten back to it. Spelunky I adore, but I can't deny it's frustrating to get through it despite actually making progress after a while.

Big respect to Valve and CrossOver for turning Wine into something more usable for handheld devices running Linux (and now even macOS is profiting from it with their Game Porting Kit). There are still caveats, but it's definitely good enough for me. Software engineers like us can easily tweak with settings or improve compatibility with quick tricks compared to a regular Joe, but it's still impressive. I've always wanted to build a tiny Raspberry Pi handheld just for coding, but this is way better.

The pre-made controls feel a bit finicky with the shortcuts they made (as in: they may or may not function 50/50, not sure whether it's a game issue or not since the game has had a couple updates), but otherwise it genuinely feels good. I run it through Proton due to the latest updates not having been ported over to the native Linux version, sadly.

You can also use the touch screen controls just fine if you enable touch screen controls in-game and have the "touch screen is actually touch screen input, not cursor input" option enabled as an "Always-On Button" in the control scheme. But the game itself is buggy with that sadly. Usually those controls are fixed by disabling and re-enabling the touch screen controls.

Eventually I went "fuck it" and use the trackpads for the controls. Definitely not difficult to control, really easy to the contrary. But I've not messed around with fixing or replacing the shortcuts from the default controller scheme.

Yeah, a Lemmy proxy is in the works. Should be able to convert Lemmy instances into a reddit-compatible format for clients.

[-] TopHat@compuverse.uk 2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Actually, your suggestion might indicate something important. The domain of the instance did change, with the old one giving 404's to get it off the list. Although Cameron did check the configs and didn't find anything wrong with them.

@Cameron@compuverse.uk Worth to cross-post to the admin channel, with the context of having switched over domains?

I fully agree. While I do love the fact we've got a self-hostable federated reddit alternative that actually provides an API (kbin doesn't provide an API sadly), it's a damn shame this solution definitely has its problems at the moment. Though hopefully this'll change soon in the future.

Starting today, I noticed some of my comments and posts aren't being visible to me when I am logged in. According to the RSS feed, logging out and checking it through an incognito tab, the posts are successfully posted on the instance and others', however.

Take this post for example: https://compuverse.uk/post/822

Here you can see I am able to view my post:

But when looking at my profile, said post is not visible:

Same applies to several recent comments I have made. Am I missing something, or is there something wrong with the instance at the moment? When logging off, I can see the post just fine on my own profile:

This is also the case when using the Android client (Jerboa), and when trying to hard-refresh pages etc.

I recently started buying movies on Vudu. I was struggling for a long time with whether or not I wanted to collect media on physical disks or digitally.

Right now that’s what I’m doing but there’s always the looming fear of anything I buy being taken away if the service gets shut down.

I’m curious how others keep their media collections. Are you a Blu-ray or 4k UHD collector? Do you use a digital service like Vudu or something similar?

Tell me your thoughts!

Blu-ray discs are the successor to DVD discs and the competitor of the former HD DVD format. The main variants of the Blu-ray discs are capable of storing 25 GB (single layered), 50-66GB (dual layered), or 100-128GB (BDXL). They are commonly used for home releases of films and shows (along with the still popular DVD format), or used for long-term archival through the use of M-DISCs. Blu-ray players are required to play these discs, although video game consoles (the PlayStation 3, the Xbox One, the PlayStation 4, the Xbox Series X|S and the PlayStation 5) nowadays have Blu-ray player functionality built-in. Discs are still capable of region-locking like DVDs but with simplified regions (A, B, C). Although most discs (especially 4K Ultra HD variants) have relaxed on region-locking the content.

M-DISCs are discs (both DVD and Blu-ray) capable of being written once and kept in storage for a longer period of time, making them ideal for long-term data storage for back-ups of important data.

Blu-ray films are currently released in two main formats: regular Blu-ray films with usually a transparent light or deep blue case, or 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray discs with a usually black case. A handy resource to get to know more about technical information of films, is https://www.blu-ray.com/

4K Ultra HD discs tend to contain video material with a resolution of 3840x2160 (either native, or upscaled to said format from a lower resolution master) and can contain a higher colour bit depth compared to regular 720p or 1080p standard Blu-ray discs. The Ultra HD Premium standard has specific requirements regarding the actual disc consumers do receive, along with the master (the original source) of the material prior to putting it onto a Blu-ray disc.

Colour depth as described before, is classified in SDR (Standard Dynamic Range), and HDR (High Dynamic Range). Common standards of HDR are HDR10 (the most common variant), HDR10+ (using dynamic metadata for adjusting), Dolby Vision (using dynamic metadata for adusting; although licensed as some Blu-ray players or TV sets can not display them such as Samsung TVs) and HLG (backward compatble with SDR).
