Right now, I’m playing the early access version of Baldurs Gate 3. I’m getting ready to put it down (frustrated: BG3 has the potential to be good, but without controller support, I’m getting really frustrated with the UI. ) and switch to Yakuza Like a Dragon.

What are you playing now and what are you looking forward to playing next?

Last game I played on it, yesterday, was Just Cause 3. It's.. not great. The game just doesn't run consistently enough and is too CPU heavy.

I recently played Red Dead Redemption 2 on it, that was great. Surprisingly so. I'm playing Skyrim now. I've had the game for years but never took the time to properly get into it. I beat the main quest and messed with mods back in the day but that's it.

Now, I'm playing it vanilla and I want to just go deep into the game, completely ignoring the main quest, I don't want to be the hero, if the universe needs saving, it can find someone else. Khajiit have caves to explore and stuff. Oh and the new Survival Mode is neat!

SteamDeck is GREAT for light roguelikes. They are often designed with controller in mind and are light on the battery.

I've been playing

  • Dead Cells
  • Hades
  • Slay the Spire
  • Skul
  • Undermine
  • Vampire Survivors

All great on Deck

Im currently swapping between playing Rimworld, and Tape to Tape.

Tape to Tape is a hockey rogue lite that playes like classic nhl games with a bit of Mario Strikers.

Love my Steam Deck. Lots of Brotato, some Runescape, brawlhalla, Game Boy Games on RetroArch. Hollow Knight too.

LEGO Builder's Journey has been really fun, its a great game to play at night to wind down even though it's pretty short

[–] baahemian@beehaw.org 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Been mostly playing ToTK on switch like some here, though I think I'll have to give a few more attempts at P ranking some bosses in Pizza Tower soon, or perhaps try to 100% Hifi Rush

[–] Angleslam@lemmy.fmhy.ml 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Would you say Hifi rush is worth the price in amount of content terms? I've been switherong on it for a while.

[–] baahemian@beehaw.org 1 points 2 years ago

Sorry for the late reply! It’s really a question of how you approach postgame content. It’s a fairly short “linear campaign” with hidden challenges for level replays. For me the story was fun and the mechanics engaging enough to enjoy beyond the short playtime.

I still enjoy turning it on to do a few fights and enjoy the rhythm mechanics, might do a new play through.

Horizon Zero Dawn. Had it on PS4 and didn't get far. Having a Deck changes everything.

Everspace 2 and Mad Max. The latter runs great on the Deck.

[–] Spaenny@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 2 years ago

I have been playing a lot of BotW and DRG on it. Playing BotW on it is amazing, for DRG or mainly any shooter on it there is the problem of me not being used to aim with the gyro properly yet.

[–] hannes3120@feddit.de 1 points 2 years ago

I'm using it almost exclusively during commuting between my hometown and my girlfriend's current city (nearly 4h) for which the deck is an absolute godsent

Played through the Sherlock Holmes games and now am playing the Ace Attorney games (for which the Deck is probably a bit overpowered but so what).

Not a huge fan of fast-paced games on the deck since I have a pretty good PC at home with a 144hz 1440p monitor which I really miss with games like Else Ring or (especially) Rocket League

[–] NoPolToday@beehaw.org 1 points 2 years ago

I'm playing through Far Cry 6, and it's running perfectly (Proton GE). I'm genuinely surprised by how good it works, even if that game chews my battery.

[–] mtizim@beehaw.org 1 points 2 years ago

Over the year I've finished Outer Wilds, Hades, PikuNiku, the second Ori game, and have been slowly getting through Elden Ring. Next is probably Tunic, but idk if it's worth my time after playing through the first 2 hours.

Nowadays I can't use any other controller than the deck, so I sometimes link it with the pc just for that - I just can't live without the gyro and the back buttons

[–] badsector@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

I've been playing System Shock 2, the original version i got from GOG (it took a bit to make the controls work but it works fine, though i found a weird bug with non-Steam games in that if you rename the game it loses the control settings - e.g. i set up the controls when the icon was named "SS2.exe" but when i renamed it to "System Shock 2" later it lost the settings until i renamed it back to "SS2.exe" :-P).

I also played a bit of Stranger of Sword City, a turn-based and grid-based blobber. I find the deck works fine with such games.

Also both games play just fine at ~5Watt settings (i like to optimize the settings per-game to get more battery life out of the system).

Beat TOTK on Switch, now replaying on Yuzu on Steam Deck

[–] Phen@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Does it run well on your Steam Deck?

Are you using any specific settings or did it run well out of the box, so to say?

[–] DRx@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

I think it runs great! I get most 30 fps unless I’m in the main town which it’ll dip down to 23-25 and stay around 27… shrines and cutscenes are 30 with very little to no frame stutter

It does not run out of the box… I’m using a “EA” build of yuzu, I have 4 mods + update 1.1.1, then I’ve changed settings within yuzu for just this game. If you’d like to know specifics I’ll do a write up. Sounds like a lot of work, but I set it all up in about 15 min or less

Celeste Strawberry Jam An absolute masterpiece that runs perfectly on the Deck

Disco Elysium. Fantastic writing and pretty hilarious at times.

It's also pretty good as a portable PC when traveling too, so that's nice.

I'm playing Doki Doki Literature Club mainly to see why there are all the disclaimers about disturbing content.

Steam Deck install base: less than 2 million

Nintendo Switch install base: 125+ million

But by all means let's talk about Steam Deck.

Here we go again...

[–] Hexadecimald@lemmy.ml 2 points 2 years ago

What does this even mean? People shouldn't talk about it because it doesn't have as many users?

Mostly modded Skyrim on my Deck (enchanted weapons build), but the majority of my time lately has been playing Tears of the Kingdom on the Switch.

I’m waiting to play BG3 until after it fully comes out. I don’t have a lot of free time as it is, and I’d rather not play through the first part of the game multiple times right now.

[–] jord@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

How is Skyrim's performance on the Steam Deck? I've never properly got into the game but would love to give it another shot.

I am currently playing Red Dead Redemption 2 on my deck, performs well enough (the major concern is the affect to the battery if playing handheld). Keyboard required for first time set-up (virtual keeb didn't work).

Others:

No Man's Sky - endless playability imo and was my go to when I purchased

Planet Zoo - I haven't actually played on deck yet, but I got my desktop setup where I only need to use the mouse, and plan to try the strategy on my deck.

Dofromantik - this is a relaxed puzzle game that is very good on deck

Podman - containerization is a game, and the deck is a Linux computer after all :)

Currently playing BOTW, Stardew Valley, Cassette Beasts, and Shadow Tactics Blade of the Shogun (I have trouble focusing on one game at once.)

Super excited for BG3 too, although I'm waiting for controller support with the full release first.

[–] lemillionsocks@beehaw.org 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Not a steamdeck user but a linux pc gamer so solidarity. Currently playing RE2 and Like a dragon Ishin.

Fallout 4.

Two weeks ago I came across a Fallout 4 video on YouTube. It brought back memories! I am a grown ass man now and don't have time sitting in front of a PC or console all day, so I bought a second hand Steam Deck for the job.

Currently playing through Halo Reach. I've never played the series before, and so far I'm really liking it. Even though it is marked as playable, the only slight slowdown was signing into Microsoft, which wasn't too bad even.
