No, though I did post specifically that I condone what he did. It wasn't that though. I'm dual national American and French. I grew up a lot in the USA, but I've been living in France for over ten years and I've chosen my side in this fight. To that end: I've been 100% serious about getting off of the American tech stack. I've left iCloud (Apple Music forthcoming) entirely, and been getting off of more and more non-EU/FOSS places. I've been blogging about it to help others. It's been rewarding. Lemmy was just another step to take. ๐๐

Around 1200, I start having a little trouble, but I can still read most of it fairly well. 1100 is when I start to lose a lot of it, struggling through. 1000 is what I remember from trying to write papers on this stuff in University wherein I'd use translated copies side by side.
Maybe I can go back further than some others because I'm so damned old. ๐คฃ
Well, given that it was posted in Memes, and after what he said the other day, it's pretty easy to determine that it is parody. However, I do sympathize, as we are living in an age where most headlines appear to have come out of The Onion a mere decade ago, but are in fact the reality we face today.
Yeah, I've been writing about this idiocy since almost thirty years. Fighting evil doesn't make you just as bad as evil. Using that "logic", we were wrong to bomb the hell out of the Nazis and shoot them in Europe. We were "bad" to do so? I don't think so. It's idiotic to think that. In fact, it's an utter betrayal of the enlightenment values amongst which we gained the idea of nuance under the law. It portrays a philosophy devoid of any actual thought, relying simply on mindless knee-jerk reactions.
That kid is a fucking hero. I said so on Reddit when it happened, and I'm saying it here now as well. I condone his actions and, if more people did what he did, we would stand a better fighting chance against this loathsome menace currently destroying everything good in the USA and abroad.
So, Discord says they will not be using Persona. Count me skeptical as to their supposed new choice and methodology, given that they appear to have either been:
- Unaware of Persona's capabilities or
- In on it the whole time.
Neither option leaves me with the confidence needed to remain on any platform which recently announced this sort of "update" for our safety and "convenience".
I told my friends on Discord that I am not telling them how to proceed - they can keep using it if they want to - but I shall remove myself from there (and apparently Reddit as well soon?) post-haste. One reason I came to Lemmy last week was because I was tired of Reddit's US Ownership and, frankly, from everything I've heard...the guy in charge is a veritable Nazi anyway. As for Discord, for my friends I've set up my own Nextcloud instance and we can use Nextcloud Talk. For general groups, I'll have to look into Element with Matrix, I suppose.
I use Pass since a few years. It has a wonderful package for Emacs, and great iOS apps with face ID for ease of use, and the DB can sync to your own private git server behind tailscale. If you have a server, I definitely suggest looking into it. You can check it out at https://www.passwordstore.org/
As if I'm supposed to take them at their word?
Not bloody likely.
