Oh nice! Thanks!

Is yours one? I saw other people suggest Lemmy.zip, mander I think is one, and lemdr.oid or something like that.

The problem is that they tend to be smaller, which means harder to find.

The US did a genocide on the Native Americans, even after being a democracy.

This suuuucks. We need another big, general instance that doesn't defed everyone. But I get it, being an admin sounds like a lot of work or I would do it lol. Plus I don't have place for a server around here. Or do most admins just buy space from the cloud?

Reminds me of that great joke -

A KGB agent and CIA agent meet up in a bar."I have to admit, I'm always so impressed by Soviet propaganda. You really know how to get people worked up," the CIA agent says.

"Thank you," the KGB says. "We do our best but truly, it's nothing compared to American propaganda. Your people believe everything your state media tells them."

The CIA agent drops his drink in shock and disgust. "Thank you friend, but you must be confused... There's no propaganda in America."

Over analysis caveat of the jokeOf course it's not state media directly in the states, but the same billionaires who own the state own the media, so it turns out all to be the same thing in the end.

Holy shit actual media criticism and analysis on North Korea. Never thought I'd see this day.

The little clip with the meta-commentary on news stories commenting about them was hilarious yet insightful, so I definitely have to watch the full documentary they're referencing (EDIT: especially if it's just the 20 minute video you linked. That's the full video? I thought I heard the word documentary so thought it would be longer).

Just saw Sinners and loved it! Anyone know a good way to search old movie specific discussion threads so I can see what other people on Lemmy had to say about it?

Thats what you take away from this? Have some empathy for the people being murdered by your tax dollars, including by your last President, you little Nazi supporting freak.

If anything, Kamala threw your future away because she would support these horrible child-killing maniacs than defeat Trump.

Ah see, there's the problem. I don't think it's like Newton's Theory of Gravitation. The rate of profit to fall isn't some ironclad law that's applicable in all cases 100% of the time. Cowbee already conceded various ways it could not be true (lack of competition such as through monopoly, exploitation of workers, globalization and imperialism, cartels, trusts, etc).

It seems to describe the natural tendency of a system-wide phenomenon (assuming increasing automation and existing competition in capitalism but nothing really else), so you'd have to consider a macro view of the entire system over a long period of time for it to work. It's like how you can't say one section of the world has been getting colder or staying the same for a couple years and thus climate change has been debunked, as you not only need to look at the whole planet but then the next couple decades as well.

So the next company has a brief increase in rate of profit, but then taking a more extended look at the system, everyone will probably switch suppliers to the cheaper wood and someone is going to lower their prices, forcing everyone else to (barring one of the scenarios above).

You can probably counter climate change temporarily, too. For example, dumping increasingly larger ice cubes in the ocean every year.

But ya, the analogy isn't completely one to one, it was just another good example of a a high level system-wide tendency that must be examined over a whole system and over a longer period of time that I thought most people reading would be familiar with.

I heard it's supposed to be super stealthy and really smart, so I guess they didn't expect to even have to do that lol. Otherwise, we could spend less money and use the older less stealthy and technologically advanced jets.

I think that's Richard Wolff's whole thing. I think he's communist? At least socialist.

I heard about this in the UK elections recently, and someone recommended it to me recently for the US elections, because I said I empathize with the people who are voting against Kamala because of the genocide, despite being a Kamala supporter myself (you've probably seen me around arguing as such lol).

Basically, it's a system where people in safe states, like me, agree to trade votes with someone in a swing state. So the safe state person would vote with the heart of the person in the swing state, so they can kind of vote their heart and mind at the same time.

Is this a thing we could set up? Would it be legal to make a community for that, or would it rub against laws about affecting votes or something? There was even a whole site for the UK, but not sure if it would work in the US.

I need some new shoes for every day work and walking. I basically only have one pair of casual shoes, one pair of running and gym shoes, and one pair of dress shoes right now, and the first one is falling apart.

I spend most of the day in slacks and collared shirts sitting at a computer, but my work site also involves multiple buildings about 10-15 minutes walk from each other, so that surprisingly the walking and standing can add up throughout the day. Plus, like I said, only got one pair of shoes right now, so I literally wear them all the time for almost everything.

So it would be nice if I could just wear them in normal life, too, so they look good hanging out with friends, going to an amusement park, or going on a stroll. Or maybe I just need to get another pair of shoes, so I can have some that are comfortable and some that look good when I go out to a nice bar or whatever lol.

What do you guys suggest? What shoes do you guys wear for the office or normal every day use? Just white sneakers or something else? What brands or styles?

EDIT: Loving all the recommendations so far! Keep 'em coming!

I have, but I'm going through the Remake trilogy and my partner is watching me complete the game. As far as I know they have somehow stayed unspoiled this whole time, so I'm going to try to keep it that way as long as I can. I'm playing Remake on Hard to remember the story and delay until my next paycheck, but will zoom through as fast as I can to get any cool stuff I missed and then jump into Rebirth.

But I'm just curious, will they still enjoy Rebirth as much as I enjoyed the original games? Or do they change too many things for the sake of the meta-narrative? They are adamant they won't play the original btw, they are watching me play for the story while on their phone, and I don't think will be able to get past the old graphics and lack of voice acting, so I suspect the "This is a sequel, just play the original game" line I keep seeing on Reddit won't fly for them.

Hey Lemmy,

What are your favorite horror movies from Blumhouse?

I went to Universal Studio's Halloween Horror Nights this year and they had the whole tram Blumhouse themed. I liked to watch horror movies during this spooky season, so i think catching up on some of these ones seems like a good place to start this year.

It's that spooky time of year again! Anyone here have thoughts about the big scary amusement park events in the area?

Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights vs
Six Flags Fright Fest vs
Knotts Scary Farm

For people who enjoy these scary, fun events, which do you prefer most? Are there other Halloween events in Los Angeles you prefer more (Los Angeles Haunted Hay Ride or Queen Mary's Dark Harbour, for example)?

USGS says it's 4.7, so going with that despite it being different from the LA Times headline.

What I think I know : They tried to take a picture at Arlington National Cemetery, but couldn't? There was a physical altercation maybe? But the Trump campaign said there wasn't?

Is there more to this? Can someone explain to me the context of how this is a scandal?

Like I hate Trump but I don't understand why this is a big deal. It doesn't seem to involve the man personally, just some staffers who had an argument with a cemetery worker, and seems like small potatoes compared to other scandals he's had. Is it because of how sacred the cemetary is, or did they get into an actual fist fight, or did Trump personally interfere in some way?

4.7 in South Pasadena.

Anyone else feel it?
