I'd be nervous if I was a worker or patient in that hospital right now...

Lots of people said that about switching candidates just a few months before the election but they pulled that off fine. Abandoning a pro-genocide stance seems like a low bar in that regard.

Hey Lemmy,

What are your favorite horror movies from Blumhouse?

I went to Universal Studio's Halloween Horror Nights this year and they had the whole tram Blumhouse themed. I liked to watch horror movies during this spooky season, so i think catching up on some of these ones seems like a good place to start this year.

It's that spooky time of year again! Anyone here have thoughts about the big scary amusement park events in the area?

Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights vs
Six Flags Fright Fest vs
Knotts Scary Farm

For people who enjoy these scary, fun events, which do you prefer most? Are there other Halloween events in Los Angeles you prefer more (Los Angeles Haunted Hay Ride or Queen Mary's Dark Harbour, for example)?

4.7 Earthquake in Malibu (www.latimes.com)

USGS says it's 4.7, so going with that despite it being different from the LA Times headline.

Surprised how many people were opposed to hunting deer with guns. I know that's super popular in some places.

What I think I know : They tried to take a picture at Arlington National Cemetery, but couldn't? There was a physical altercation maybe? But the Trump campaign said there wasn't?

Is there more to this? Can someone explain to me the context of how this is a scandal?

Like I hate Trump but I don't understand why this is a big deal. It doesn't seem to involve the man personally, just some staffers who had an argument with a cemetery worker, and seems like small potatoes compared to other scandals he's had. Is it because of how sacred the cemetary is, or did they get into an actual fist fight, or did Trump personally interfere in some way?

Between this and Borderlands, movies being in production hell forever seems to usually be a bad sign. Now I'm getting worried about Blade...

I wonder when people will realize the US system is drastically broken.

[-] WanderingVentra@lemm.ee 40 points 4 months ago

It's becoming harder and harder to read these stories. But I don't want to get numb to this like so many other people in the US. I can't let myself be like a random, comfortable German living in Nazi Germany oblivious to my country's war crimes. Excusing it seems like the first step to losing your humanity.

Earthquake! (lemm.ee)

Anyone else feel it?

Special prosecutors have been allowed through legal cases for 30 years now at least. They are settled law. Hell, they used one on Hunter Biden recently I believe.

I'd love a Nature is Fucking Lit community over here on Lemmy. I just saw the cutest post on Reddit there and I'd love to spread it or see it over here. (I look at reddit without a profile while at my work computer sometimes, don't judge me lol).

Think I should post it to the lemmy.world one to revive that one? Looks like that hasn't been active in a few months.

I also wonder if it's better to use this opportunity when it's possibly dead to revive the community somewhere else? Like maybe mander.xyz since nature is connected to science or something? Or maybe the solar punk instance? Is there a better place someone can think of or should we stick to the Lemmy.world one?

What do people think?

I know it's probably too early to tell but I've been working weekends lately so it's been hard to watch the LCS and catch up, even though I was excited about this season. How are people enjoying the changes? Bo3's seem like a positive change so far?

What about people from other regions? Have they had changes to their esports that seem positive or negative so far?

Luke had to actually train and failed when he fought his main, more experienced villain for the first time. Then he went back and did more training off screen. I think that makes him less a Mary Sue. He's definitely whiny, though.

I'm considering buying some extra storage space for my PS5. Last time I was out of town, my partner tried to play a game and they couldn't, because I deleted it to make room. They went to download it but it was out of space, so of course they didn't want to delete anything. That makes me sad because I want to encourage them to use it and game lol.
Plus, I think it would make it easier rather than always downloading and deleting things.

Have other people bought extra storage for PS5? What kind would you recommend?

Do you go for internal or external? Do you have the heat sink if an internal one? Is 4TB enough or overkill? I think I saw that amount somewhere once (unless I imagined it) but maybe 1 or 2 TB is good, and probably easier to find.

We're looking at movies to watch for Father's Day and my dad has already watched most of the ones out right now, so that eliminates the ones I want to see (Furiosa, The Fall Guy) and he's not interested in Planet of the Apes. That basically leaves the Watchers.

Anyone see it yet and have any opinions on it? Going either way to spend time with my father, but want to know how low to set my mind expectations lol.

I've been seeing her name a lot lately in terms of good science fiction and fantasy. I feel like I've lost so much attention span in terms of my ability to read and stuff and I'd like to start getting back into it, perhaps starting with her (or Terry Pratchett lol).

If I start with her, what's a good place to start with her work?

As long as the US backs them up they feel invincible. I'm sure the nukes help, too. They're like Russia.

[-] WanderingVentra@lemm.ee 43 points 8 months ago

Isn't it obvious? Genocide. They want to be the next US, Australia, or Canada. Kill all the natives, or enough to make them not a threat anymore, and take all the land for themselves. Only difference we're supposed to know not to do that anymore.

I used so much printer paper and ink printing a bunch of those out. They were indeed saviors. Also another great example, along with open source, of people helping each other out for free, and beyond their local tribe, too.

The US was the only country to vote against the draft text while the United Kingdom abstained. The UN Security Council’s 13 other member countries voted in favour of the text demanding a halt to the war that has killed more than 29,000 people in Gaza, according to Palestinian authorities, and displaced more than 80 percent of the population

It's stuff like this that makes me realize we're the evil empire from Star Wars. The Security Council needs a reworking away from vetos.
