He was fired

He owns the business. His ownership was liquidated by the other owner without paperwork, and most of the other owners dispute that the ownership was ever diluted. The decision over whether he should have been "fired" are really upto him and the other business owners.

It's also unclear why the other employees, who may or may not have been coerced, were not siding with Kurvitz. I agree it's a mess, but there's a big gap between "feelings" and "actually grossly illegal stuff".

I joined it specifically for the solarpunk and I still think of it as Slurp Nik.

I don't think it's a death, it's more of a transition. Firstly, a lot of XBox games have been coming to PC, intentionally, because Microsoft basically own the market*. They've also created XCloud + Game pass, possibly the most convenient way to play games, and you don't need an XBox.

The real people who've turned on the device itself has been devs. Some of the stuff they've been saying at GDC have been at the same level as the stuff they say about Linux as a target. Like your game shouldn't be that dependent on platform, it hurts things like archival.

+1. I was giving an example but you really need everyone involved to sit down and think through the way things are going to work. Every successful act of civil disobedience is thoroughly planned out.

Intel has had open source drivers for quite a while, they just get upstreamed slowly.

The 80 kph rule of thumb is actually part of the design parameters of most regular cars. They are built to be most fuel efficient at 80 (or probably more accurately aerodynamic designed for 80).

I was using exponential colloquially (and fair cop given its usage during Covid), but I think you're just using cubic as a rough guide also due to air resistance. I'd note there are no extra gears at the higher speeds, so you're probably less efficient on the tyres etc.

Here's my take: I think this sort minute rule making in a code of conduct is harmful. The purpose of permanent bans is to remove trolls and other bad faith actors, but no one you've described is bad faith. We shouldn't be against diversity of opinion here. If anything, I think a time out or temporary (24h) ban is more appropriate to stop people from raging or behaving badly, but all opinions should be welcome.

It's almost as though we need climate justice.

Basically every year since 2016 it's been this slow boil. Even knowing it was the new normal, that this, and the associated fires, floods, etc. is going to continue for our lifetimes, it's still surprising to see it year on year.

We need to block the adblock blockers...

I use satclubbing for electronic music and metal tracker metal. Something else I've started doing is getting second hand CDs. They are going really cheap right now and will likely become vintage and sought after in a decade odd. I basically buy them and rip them and keep them in storage.

Fediverse apps (though not Lemmy yet because they sort of accidentally exploded in popularity) let you migrate your data. This is the killer app, so there's very little opportunity for Lemmy to "go bad". Unlike Reddit where this sort of thing has to be built out separately and Reddit itself may take action (such as removing API, because they think they own your data), Fediverse explicitly has the functionality so you can move. This means moving from Lemmy to some other fedi-app should be fairly easy.
