Realistically, what are the odds of something going wrong unless you light up a cig while peeking right inside the fuel tank? Last year I've been taking smoke breaks at the gas stations every week near the pump with the crew working there, because I had to attend stuff in the middle of bumfuck nowhere, and wait around for potentially up to an hour with the gas station being the only inhabited place around. Still living and breathing, and I honestly don't see how it could've turn badly. Yeah, I know, vapors and stuff, yadda-yadda, but those can only be in high enough concentrations to be dangerous maybe, at worst, within a hand's reach of a tank or a nozzle? Otherwise, the station would have much worse problems than smokers.

I remember when I was a kid and we started learning foreign languages in school. My class got divided into two halves, ones that study English and other that study German. Few month later I was walking down the street with my classmate and he went like:

  • Oh, so you're studying English, huh? What does DUHR mean?

  • What?

  • DUHRR

  • Oh, you mean door? It's spelled do-o.

  • Bro, there's an R in there and two O's. DUHR. Even I know that, and I'm not even the one studying English. If door was do-o, then would you spell TOH DOH as "to do"?

Little did the bro know... I hope he at least got German well enough, AFAIK there's little bullshit like that

0 here 🥳

And only 3 messages in spam but those are forwards from my gmail acct for notifications from google services. Can't be bothered to check if it's possible to use custom email instead because I should probably just stop using google altogether.

Yeah, voice chat is all we need.

That is expected to speedup though as headcount difference keeps getting skewed even more. At some point there just simply won't be enough people to hold the line.

Or better yet, host your own TeamSpeak server.

Speaking of which, are there any decent FOSS alternatives? Discord got banned in my homecountry and forcing it through VPN or proxy is a total pain in the ass. Forced my friends to move to TS as that's what we used back in the day... like a decade ago, but maybe there's something modern and more open nowadays?

This is a very legit concern. But to my understanding, it is possible to make the the camera that's very hard to crack, by putting security enclave or whatever it is that makes phones hard to unlock, right inside the CCD chip. Even if somebody manages to strip off the top layer, chart out the cryptographic circuit, probe the ROM inside, etc and extract the private key, it should be possible upon finding it to revoke the key to that camera or even the entire model and make it even more painful in further models.

Another concern is of camera being pointed to the screen with a fake image, but I've searched and yet to find a convincing shot that doesn't look like, well, a photo of a screen. But for this concern I think the only counter-measure would be to add photographer and publisher signatures to the mix, so that if anyone is engaging in such practice is caught, their entire library goes untrusted upon revocation. Wouldn't be completely foolproof, but better than nothing, I guess.

The only thing it opens up is that as a game developer I can make a contract that turns NFT items from another game into NFT items of my game. Like HyperDragons that you level up by feeding them CryptoKitties, without consent or approval from CryptoKitties devs.

But why on earth, as a game developer, would you ever do that... Well, other than as a PR stunt.

Had thoughts like that before, someone pointed that it already exists and is called C2PA - no blockchain necessary. It's not yet widespread, though.

As for NFT, when it came out I had thoughts that it could be used for completely transparent and automated businesses. Something like an AirBnB with a digital lock on the front door and you could buy an NFT for a daily stay that you could use to unlock said lock. But then if there's only one company that accepts said NFT's then there's zero reason for it to be on blockchain, they can just send you the code, and if they scam you there's no use for either NFT or the code. There could be real estate ownership certificates, but then again, there would always be only one authority issuing them - zero reason for blockchain. There could be like crowdfunding NFT, but then again, there could only one party managing the funds. There were tons of ideas for practical usage of NFT's, but all of them hinge on there being some party linking the zero-trust crypto and the real world, and if there's only a single trusted party then it always makes more sense for that party to deploy a normal database in place of blockchain and just provide an API endpoint to verify ownership.

EDIT: Fixed wrong link

Alright, alright, Russian here, let's negotiate. I'm generally in favor of Ukraine taking Chechnya, Dagestan and Ingushetia off our hands. You couldn't take Kaliningrad even over my dead body, but we can offer ~~a nuclear wasteland~~ Novaya Zemlya instead (but we'll keep nuking the shit out of it), and Sakhalin, too, just to fuck with Japan even more.

Deal?

And what about Belarus? And Transnistria?

So the story is, I've got a bunch of android-based smartwatches I'm using for some hobby projects. Got tired of typing stuff on a tiny 2" screen, so I've bought some rando bluetooth kbd/mice combo. Tried with the phone and it worked fine but I had a lot of trouble pairing them with the watches and even then it stutters a lot. Thought it was just watches being laggy until I noticed that they work much better if I move the watches away for me, or if I use the peripherals behind my back.

Obviously, having to do either is far from ideal. So the question is, am I going nuts, or is too much transmitting power a thing with BT devices? Is it just interference? Any tips on how I could reduce it?

Alright, the title is a bit clickbaity, but hear me out!

Little background: Since the start of the Ukraine invasion, Russia and Belarus have been hit with massive sanctions, and a lot of stuff suddenly became unavailable. That includes quite a few video games that became unavailable on steam. Helldivers being one of them. And, since it started, a lot of people, myself included, have left the country in disagreement with the regime, mostly to ex-USSR countries, like Armenia, Georgia, Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan. Others, who, for some reason, are unable or are unwilling to move, either resorted to piracy, or got their steam accounts switched to one of said countries, mostly with help from friends in one of them. This is a good thing in a way that that that it moves place where the taxes are paid, and gives more power to those countries, especially as they grow wary of their warmongering neighbor and increasingly drift away from their shared USSR past, effectively weakening war machine.

Now with geographic restrictions put on all of those countries on Steam, I've been pondering if there's a way to still somehow buy this game for my friends to play with, some of whom are still residing in Russia, and stumbled upon this:

https://shop.buka.ru/item/HELLDIVERS_2_versiya_RF

This is a totally legit, official store of one of the oldest major publishers in Russia, and official SONY's partner. What caught my attention is that they have two separate versions available - one for Russia and Belarus, and another for ex-USSR countries. The first one is a little problematic as it means that SONY is continuing doing business in Russia and doesn't give a fuck about it waging a war. But whatever. The second one, on the other hand, is completely nuts. As far as I can tell, it is the only place where you could obtain the game officially in said countries. With the price of roughly $40 with 20% VAT included, that'd be $8 straight into Putin's pockets for every copy sold. Sweet liberty! Plus whatever the publisher's cut is, that gets further taxed down the road. For a person who fled from dictatorship and is conscious about where their money go, or for a citizen of a country that was invaded and is still partly occupied, or a person displaced from their home because the peacekeepers just told them to fuck off and left, that sounds like a bad joke.

I do realize that VAT from video game sales is a drop in the ocean, compared to oil and gas exports. But still, I'd say that a good enough reason to keep pushing SONY to lift geographic restrictions on Steam.

I'm currently in a country with lots of companies straight up spamming every single number. But, I guess it's by law, all those messages have a word signifying that it's an ad.

My question is whether there's an app that could auto-remove them, preferrably removing the notification as well and ideally keeping the stock messenger intact.

I've tried a few from the play market's top but none seemed to work, some didnt even have such a feature. Also tried some automation tools, but couldnt find one that could delete SMS messages.

Any suggestions?
