Using an app is just a more mobile friendly experience. Also, you get the option of choosing an app with a layout that is most appealing to you. For example I've been using WefWef for now, but I'm waiting for Boost for Lemmy to come out since it's an interface I'm familiar with.

And that's assuming Lemmy acquires anywhere near the user base reddit had. Reddit just has so much useful information that doesn't exist elsewhere yet and will for sure take years to come close to.

Wefwef has been the best for me so far. I'm a previous Boost for Reddit user, so I'm still waiting for their official Lemmy release and then I'll switch.

Doesn't need to be hosted on the server. Just need the client's to support smooth embedding from other video hosts like peertube.
