I remember a student in class threw a fit about not being able to cite the Bible as a source. She showed the professor a website demonstrating how to cite the Bible in APA format as “proof” that the Bible can in fact be cited.

Back in the day, a soda was a special treat, but then it became something people drink like water. Then companies started putting ass-partame and other garbage in it so people could continue drinking dessert for hydration and supposedly not put on weight.

I have a mini PC for gaming and originally installed Mint, but switched to Bazzite to see if it would fix an issue with my XBox controllers cutting out. It didn’t, and I also didn’t notice any better performance in games. After coming to the conclusion I’d have to rebase to uninstall Steam (I only use Lutris), I decided immutable is cool, but I’ll stick with Mint.

It sucks being put on the spot to donate to a charity I haven’t researched, but I’ve also been a cashier and hated being forced to ask people shit like this.

So are they getting a different award for using AI and ending up with something that isn’t slop?

Pretty bad luck on the timing for Steam Machine. Hope Valve can still pull it off, but not sure they’re going to be able to hit a price point where it’s worth buying.

DNF makes me so sad to this day.

See, we’re trying to be green. Keep giving us money and don’t feel bad. We sure don’t.

Couldn’t agree more with all of that. Then there are the scumbag bail bond companies where you’re out a substantial sum to borrow enough money to make bail if you’re unlucky enough not to have the full bail amount sitting in the bank.

Years ago, I read about a guy who rode his bike past a house that was being robbed. The police acquired data from Google placing him in the area at that time. While he didn’t do anything wrong and had nothing to hide, I assume he had to hire a lawyer and go through a time-consuming and stressful process to prove his innocence. That was the turning point for me where I began focusing heavily on privacy.

Got a cheap LCD 64GB one on sale then put in a 1 TB SSD, and I love it. This form factor in the $300s is about right. Much more than that and it’s not really worth it for low-end graphics on a small screen.

I recently got called out for this, and rightfully so. In my case, I think it’s ADD. It’s embarrassing to admit, but many times, I start reading, a thought pops in my head, I impulsively post, then forget to read the rest of the article. Sometimes, I find myself reading a comment and voting or replying before I’ve read all of it.

My understanding is that a lot of us on Lemmy have ADD. Perhaps that’s why, for example, it’s not uncommon to see the most upvoted comment in a thread being one that completely ignores what the article actually says, or posts getting downvoted to hell when the article’s headline or initial paragraph appears to present a perspective the community disagrees with, but the overall message is actually more neutral or agreeable.

Have you noticed yourself unwittingly engaging in any of these behaviors, or am I just overlooking something due to a deficit of attention? Oh, wait, was there another post on this topic last week that I completely missed? Ha, I actually did remember to search first this time, so hopefully not. Ooh, look at that rock!

Good insights, and not just software developers, really. We don’t like ads, sensationalism, or anything reeking of bullshit. If we have to talk to someone to find out the price, the product may as well not exist.
