They have an interview process that combs over, not sure actually...

Anyone who wants to see it https://www.project2025.org/

If you read the PDF that they gave it's terrifying. Talking about applying to be a Loyalist and only they get federal appointments...and replacing real people in the government.

I got a disk of suse Linux from a library book. I put it on my laptop and it worked-ish.

I didn't know what partitions were so I messed up my laptop pretty bad. But I learned more in that little bit than my undergrad degree.

I really liked the port, but after they fixed all the bugs. When it first came out it would crash on any steamdeck /Linux systems.

The music is fantastic.

Are you near Fresno? If so, you can always get a free meal over at the Poverello house. You can also get a food bag. https://poverellohouse.org/what-we-do/food/emergency-food-bags

I used to volunteer over there. Great place.

As far as prices go, you can get a big 25 pound of rice/beans for less than 20$ over at Winco. Back when covid happened it lasted my wife and I about a year on both. It gets boring, but it works.

Dungeon Crawler Carl - Matt Dinniman

Audio - Jeff Hays

www.soundbooththeater.com makes some great works. Its fun to read the series and then hear Jeff do an excellent job afterward.

For government work, I stumbled into it. A friend got me the foot in the door. I really wish I could give you better advice on that but thats the truth. Its really flipping hard to get a job in my local gov area. Gov pay can be bad but it heavily depends on what/where you are. I make around -15% less than my last place, but I get a pension after a couple of years, so it evens out. Plus I dont feel like im selling my soul for a couple of bucks.

For non-profits, I simply searched for them on linkedin/indeed and found a couple in my area looking for software devs. The interview process is about the same as any other place, but they did take a look at my GitHub profile more than some others. At least when I got started.

So just like anything:

  1. Make sure you know your stuff.
  2. A portfolio of work is always going to be seen as a positive.
  3. Keep your resume up to date.
  4. Go to your local meetup groups on subjects you like (networking is important)

Hope that helps!

I felt like that until I started working for a couple of non-profits and then later government. My job actually makes people have a better time in life. Its kinda nice nowadays.

What's interesting is that multiple trackers are now saying it's above 4 percent. Last time something was posted, people questioned the data and where they got their data (which they should). Now there's multiple sites showing a real increase.

Linkedin is getting pretty spammy lately. Is there any equivalent platform (mature or otherwise) that is a clone/competitor/etc...? I really dont want to get premium just to message people. Image is the post, on Linkedin, someone who I agree with.
