Sorry but you have clearly never imported and raised giant kangaroos for mass transit. $80 billion is nothing to them. Nothing.

Thank you for this great tool!

Is there a way I could use this to find a Lemmy instance that let's me interact with desired instances? For example:

  • I want to participate in Instance A, B, and C.
  • A has defederated from B and C
  • can I generate a list of instances that let's me interact with A, B, and C? Then I'll move my account there.

Thank you!

I'm having an issue w/ fullscreen videos since the last update (22 days ago). My computer will enter Suspend mode, even if I make a video fullscreen. This happens when I'm watching Netflix, YouTube, or any other fullscreen video.

This is unusual; In the past, if I made a video fullscreen in Firefox, my computer would stay awake.

I'm wondering if this is related to a bug fix in the latest release: Bug 1853896, which addresses a previous bug in fullscreen video.

  • Is there a way that I can fix this?
  • Or, if not, can I roll Firefox back to an earlier version?

I'm running Firefox 120.0.1 (64 bit) on Linux Lite 5.6 My hardware is an old HP Chromebox connected to a display via HDMI.

Thank you Lemmy folks!

I'm interested in getting an electric motorcycle, but something I've been wondering:

ICE motorcycles can be loud, and that can act as a safety feature, especially when lane splitting. I'm thinking about Los Angeles, where motorcycles regularly weave through bumper-to-bumper car traffic. The noise they make helps prevent riders from getting accidentally doored.

Do electric motorcycles have any kind of artificial noise maker to achieve the same thing? Or does anyone sell a device that does this?

Note that I'm not talking about generic speakers, because

  1. I don't want to have to blast music all the time just for safety, and
  2. most speaker kits are pointed BACK at the driver, not FORWARD towards traffic.

Anyone know the answer?

I'm looking for a FOSS email client for desktop. (Windows and MacOS, for now.)

Using Airmail or Mailbird as references, I'm looking for a client with some of these features:

  • A clean, minimalist design
  • A left-side toolbar as a narrow band, icons only.
  • Bonus points if it can schedule an email to send later.

I'm familiar with Thunderbird and there's a lot to like there, but design-wise, it's pretty cluttered, IMHO.

Does anyone know of a FOSS desktop email client that looks clean? -OR- Is there a way to change Thunderbird's layout so it looks/functions more like Airmail or Mailbird?

Thank you!

Tl;Dr: Beeper has rolled out a new app, Beeper Mini, just for iMessage. It claims that the new app is a privacy improvement over the standard Beeper app (now called "Beeper Cloud")

The claims:

All messages are end-to-end encrypted before being sent. Beeper (and Apple) cannot see your messages.

Encryption keys never leave your device.

Beeper Mini connects directly to Apple servers. There is no Mac server relay, like other apps.

No Apple ID is required. Beeper does not have access to your Apple account.

Your contact list never leaves your device.

In another post, Beeper says they plan to add Signal to Beeper Mini.

I currently use Beeper, but I do not give it access to my Signal messages.

If these new claims about Beeper Mini are true, though, and if Signal is ever supported in Beeper Mini.... I might actually consider bringing it in. I would love to have fewer chat apps!

In my 20s, I always skipped the office holiday party. I love partying. I enjoy drinking. And a lot of my coworkers were young and attractive. I simply never heard of anything good coming out of that mix. Like: The risks (doing something foolish, losing respect) FAR outweigh the potential gains (flirting with someone? Or, maybe hooking up with them if you're really really discrete, but that felt unlikely in any of the places where our offices had parties.)

I'm a big user of Tree Style Tabs. And I LOVE using pinned tabs.

Recently, I modified my CSS so that my sidebar will shrink/expand on hover. I really like getting this screen real estate back.

But there's a problem: My pinned tabs keep moving every time the sidebar changes width, causing the entire tab tree to slide up. (GIF) This means I have to hover, wait for the tabs, find the one I want, and finally click on it, rather than - y'know- just mousing over there and clicking.

Is there any way to change this, such that my pinned tabs stay in the "wide" configuration, and are just "revealed" when the sidebar expands?

Thanks Lemmy folks!

Lots of news channels post their video feed online, for free, legally.

Pulling up each feed is a pain, and I don't actually want to watch all of them: I just want to see, at a glance, what each network/channel/outlet is covering, so I can get a sense of what the big story of the day is.

The feeds would all have to be on mute, obviously.

Some video feeds that could be included:

And these are just streams that are posted legally. If anyone wanted to incorporate pirate streams, we could add a TON.

Alternately: If displaying a ton of live feeds is too taxing on a processor, it could just show a collage of screenshots from each feed, updated every 60 seconds. That would be easier for processing, and it might sidestep any legal issues.

I'm using the Proton theme of TST, and I really want these X buttons to only appear on hover. I know that's possible: It's how the Xs function in the Sidebar theme of TST. However, I don't like the Sidebar theme otherwise.

Does anyone know how to change the TST Proton theme to make the X button only appear on hover?

Thank you!

I read a lot of articles. In the past, I've used Pocket to access articles on all my devices.

I prefer to read on my e-ink tablet, where scrolling is a pain. So I need a read-it-later app that supports page-turning, the same way an e-book does.

Pocket used to have this feature, but they killed it with their most recent update.

Wallabag has this feature, but I find the Wallabag fonts ugly and unreadable.

Omnivore does not appear to have this feature.

Does anyone use a read-it-later app that supports page-turning?

Thank you!

No prob. BTW, you might enjoy the Compact Phones community. We're small, but we like it that way

Here's a great tool for finding Lineage-supported phones that even lets you search by size!

Hackable Phones According to their search, the smallest supported phone might be the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini.

However, as an XZ1 Compact user, I have to throw my recommendation to that Sony device. It's great.

EDIT: Also, just realized that the official Lineage page has a search feature that lets you set your desired screen size. Check it out here.
